The Devils don’t have alternatives. It’s not like we replaced him with someone reliable. It’s a garbage dump.

The idea that you could've watched the three goaltenders the Devils used last year and come to the conclusion that Blackwood is the one we should've kept is completely unsupportable by anything at all except fond memories of 4 years ago.

Sorry, it’s the goaltending. It’s a simple answer and everyone wants to blame a couple run of the mill chances against like we can’t play defense.

The goaltending sucks. I don’t care what defensive zone coverage you run, the goaltending SUCKS.

Any remotely decent chance is in the back of the net. It’s not a functional way to play hockey.
I can absolutely guarantee if we had signed Quick this offseason, he would not sporting a .928 save percentage.

He’s better than Vanecek and Schmid. That’s how low the bar is.
I don’t think that’s true.

He sucks, Vitek probably sucks and too soon to tell with Schmid.

It’s not worth arguing over at this point, but I’m done with Vitek. Historically you can’t come back from the type of playoffs Vitek had unless they send you away.

I’d give Schmid the next two games at least. The Rangers are only hoping Lindy’s dumbass throws him in on Saturday, as they would have swept us if the change wasn’t made.

Schmid deserve a longer leash.

He basically made sure we won our series against the Rangers. Not sure why he isn't the undisputed #1 at this point considering Vanacek blows.

they need a coach who will put some structure into their game. Ruff is great at letting the dogs run wild, but the way the team is built, it needs structure to cover up the average backend and bad goaltending. Because IMO they are gonna score even with a more structured system, but also may allow a lot less. I really think a change is needed, but idk who the hell would even be out there to fit that criteria to get some serious structure implemented. But nothing is gonna be happening.
Devils running a counter attack style system in the neutral zone defense and playing soft man to man in the defensive zone would probably look great, both on paper and on the ice.

He didn’t show that to be the case last year. And it was never going to get any better here. It was clear both sides needed to move on.
He was actually fairly decent last year, he just got hurt incessantly (as usual) and that was the end.

People really don’t comprehend how much Vanecek and Schmid (to a lesser extent) suck. We once again have the worst goaltending in the NHL.

We all know Vitek will get the next game.

The Rangers are hoping he gets their game though. They aren’t sweating him at all after we basically took the series from them just by making a goalie change.

You can't expect a goaltender to get in the groove playing 1 game every 6 days...

Especially a younger one who started in the league barely a year ago.

Just want to say that Bratt should be a bit better than he is. (1.5 points per is still solid)

However, at the same time, he's not a Defenseman nor is he playing Goaltender for this team.

The latter is the True Culprit here.

If our Goaltenders are unable to make timely saves when things break down, we're not going anywhere as a team this season.

And the attention then should be shifted behind the bench at Lindy.

He’s better than Vanecek, but he’s not a regular NHL goalie that a contender should be running out every night. He’s just not. Maybe in a few years.

Cause he's a young goalie and they are concerned about breaking him.

I mean, when you’re a sub .900 goalie two seasons in a row and can’t stay healthy, it’s tough to argue he would be the best option to keep.

I’m not saying Vitek or Schmid are better now because they’ve both started out poorly, but Blackwood’s ship sailed here. I’m not one to hate on him either.

Btw, there is a good chance Nico is back for the Rangers game.
Thank you for letting me go to bed on a high note.

There are 60+ games left. The caps aren't going to run hot all year and honestly not a team worth worrying about.
It’s truly astonishing stuff. I don’t know how they’re winning, though I remember the two wins we gave them.

Old cavemen will tell you “it’s because they’re a veteran team that knows how to win” but they really didn’t know how to win enough to make the playoffs last year. Younger and better versions of those
veterans that know how to win didn’t do a damn thing to help them win a single playoff series between 2019 and 2022.

For what it’s worth they had the second toughest remaining strength of schedule coming into tonight. We had the 9th.

It's way too early to jump to that conclusion.

He played really well last year, crushed it in the playoffs...

Even vs. Canes he was not the reason why we lost.

He deserves to get a hack at playing on a regular basis to be given a fair assessment.
