I don't think they're very far off the Bruins in terms of talent (outside of goalie position). The major difference is coaching imo.
Ullmark was mediocre (at best) and deemed expendable before going to the Bruins - a club that has consistently been in the playoffs.

Think it's more the team than the goaltending.

What's really puzzling is the sky is falling rhetoric after one period.

It's not like it would be the first time the Devils have a meh first period and then come out flying and turn things around after that.

In the past few weeks they've done that several times.

The Devils are giving up about 5 expected goals per 3 periods. Find a new slant. Blackwood stunk, but that’s a horrible period of hockey.
I'm not disagreeing. But knowing you have to play perfectly in order to win a game 100% gets to your head. There's a reason this team seems to play differently in front of Mac and Vitek.

We all agree the second goal is atrocious. I guess that completely negates the horrible play otherwise? We were dominated.
They started like shit but being down 1-0 as opposed to 2-0 in the first ten minutes is a completely different feel

Luckily they got one back

You can also watch the game and see where the shots are coming from. But this is also coming from someone that thought 3 goal minimum, sub .900 Blackwood was our best goalie because moneypuck said so after 18 games.
I said Schmid has been the best goalie actually, but fine. I watched the game, I showed the heat map and the expected goals. You’re smarter than analytics though.

Yes, because he has been consistently doing this. If he was more solid then we can brush it off. Its been a constant theme. This and getting injured. ENOUGH.

Edit: mis read your post, I thought you meant negates Macs good saves

I can’t flog Mac entirely as he settled down inevitably but that second goal was played ridiculously.

Boston was head and shoulders better that period but it’s going to be really, really hard for the story of this game to not be “Why the hell is that guy in net?” If we don’t turn it around.

This was a schedule start for Blackwood lol. Unserious staff is unserious. You start our third string goalie against the bruins while trying to compete for a f***ing division title. That’s grade a dementia

Or he didn’t want to start Vanecek in all 3 last games, so Blackwood had to get 1 of them.

It was either this one or Sabres and Blackwood got this one.

The Sabres is a home game. Vanecek might prefer to end the season playing two games in a row.

Vitek was coming off a tough stretch, the Columbus game was definitely about getting him two wins in a row (which hadn’t happened in while).

Both goalies get to play games, that’s how this works.

Teams are going to come out with fire sometimes (especially in a situation like this where they can tie a record at home). Sometimes you need your goalie to weather the first 10 minutes. Didn’t happen.

Be an adult and learn how to analyze a game without blaming the Blackwood mental boogeyman on every single thing. This place is insane.

We got thoroughly smoked, and people are literally saying we sucked because Blackwood is a boogeyman in the players’ heads. It’s very clear that not many here have played competitive hockey. Insane analysis.
I misread your post. Look at my edited reply which I edited before you made this post.

I don't understand how Blackwood has any defenders left, including the people that run this team and make decision for this team.

We've seen some BAD goalies come through here since the decline of Brodeur started about 13 or 14 years ago, but Blackwood's last 76 games are worse than the last 76 games that everybody played here. Brodeur's last 76 games here were probably pretty close adjusted for era, but this is worse than Kinkaid's last 76 games here, this is worse than Schneider's last 76 games here.

He shouldn't be here after this year under any circumstances.

Unless he wants to take WAY BELOW his qualifying offer and way below what a team would probably pay him in UFA if we don't tender him, which is unlikely to be more than $1.5 million for 1 year.
