So you gave the Capitals more than a 10% chance last year beating NYR that ended in a laughable sweep? Please stop with the utter foolishness that you post daily.

And also, that game was virtually even and the Devils still had to rely on a godly Markstrom to win that game, the same way how Carolina gets knocked of the playoffs in their core's history. Show the following night where the results were virtually even again and the Devils didn't get HOF goaltending. The Devils haven't gotten goaltending from the shiny turd in over 2 months but that should just magically just occur when the calendar shifts to mid April.
I mean very obviously they had a greater than 10% chance in that series? What are you talking about? This isn’t the NBA.

The second game of the back to back was played evenly at 5 on 5. They just took too many penalties and got decimated on the PK. Not sure where you’re going with this. Even if the Devils won both games 12-0 it wouldn’t mean shit once Jack went down. Wouldn’t matter if he was here either.

I’m not quite sure what you’re arguing? Who said we should expect Markstrom to start playing well? Him getting banged up is a reason we’re in trouble. Though you could describe what Allen has done this year as elite, he may be getting the starts.

I was at the Hurricanes game after Christmas break

Devils didn’t play that well. It was a fortunate result as that game was puking high danger chances against. Then we got rocked In Raleigh the next night. Idk how folks are whitewashing that

Also. Canes are 9-1 in their last ten. Idc how mediocre they were from mid Nov to Feb. They are playing their best right now.

It would take a herculean effort by our goalies to be competitive in that series and some shooting luck. (Its possible, its hockey, but it will be rough)

Again, this team needs to get in first. Idc what the “odds” show. They are playing with thin margins with a roster that has a hard time overcoming just one mistake during a game.

I know I’ve sarcastically asked this before but now I’m seriously thinking that a couple of posters here really do work for the team’s public relations department. Even the most hardcore fan wouldn’t be going to bat this hard for a team whose results are on par with the Sharks for three months.
Now it’s “the playoffs are random, if only we were healthy”. These same people who droned on for MONTHS with any excuse for horrid play, convinced it was only a blip, now contend that actually how they were playing never mattered anyway. It’s truly bizarre.

Fifteen 3rd period goals in 7 games since returning from injury. 28 total.

Someone fact check me on that. Maybe I counted wrong, because I had to individually go through game logs and sometimes I f*** up when doing that.

Elite Markstrom with a 2.14 GAA. Quite impressive!

That’s 2.14 GAA in 3rd periods.

Here’s another fun stat I bet you didn’t know.

Markstrom has allowed a goal in the final minute of regulation in THREE of his seven games since returning.

The game winner in Dallas with 5 seconds left, the joke of a goal after the empty netter in Pittsburgh and last night’s game tying goal.

That’s not even getting into whatever happened against Calgary, where none of the goals were in the final minute of regulation.

I know they want him to “Find his game” but first he needs to find a way to stop allowing multiple goals in the 3rd period and a goal in the final minute of regulation almost every other game.

And he hasn’t shut out a 3rd period once since he’s come back. He’s done just one goal against two times and one of those was the Dallas game winning goal with 5 seconds left. The other was the Columbus blowout, which is his lone win in that stretch.

I have literally maintained the entire time that it didn’t matter very much. It didn’t, still doesn’t. How would our path to the cup be any easier if we had 90 points right now with the same injuries?

guys we didn’t make the playoffs yet why are you even arguing about this? teams behind us have games in hand and head to head matchups vs us and we f***ing suck.

look at all the points we threw away just this week. this team can easily skid into a losing streak right out of the playoffs. let’s worry about holding a third period lead first.

and yeah anything can happen in the playoffs but this team has been one of the worst in the league for 3 months now, and most of that was with our best players. let’s not delude ourselves into thinking this team as presently constructed poses a real threat beyond maybe a hot goalie stealing a round. do we even have a hot goalie? not right now

no NHL series in the history of the sport has been 90% to 10% to win.

the Caps were arguably the worst playoff team of all time last year and they were anywhere from 35-40% probability to win (depending on your source)

Trade for elite goalie. Same results

Who do u want to sign/trade for that will be " THAT gOalIE tHat pUsheS this (what clearly has been if only for goaltending a contending playoff) team tO a cHamPionsHip"???

Who is left in the league that will save this elite core?

Are you implying the goaltending this year is the same as the goaltending last year? Devils goalies this year are at like 32 goals saved above expected and last year they were at like -20.

and no one thought Markstrom was elite.

They should just stop giving him so many games. How about that?

Put him back on the IR.

He was good before he came back, but this stretch has been as bad as any 7 game stretch we’ve seen over the years.

Also, fire GM after this year and we have a chance to contend. The team is not in contention because their GM stinks and is a fraud.

I am not confident at all in this team even making the playoffs still. It'd be an insane collapse but they've shown it's very much possible.

Yeah, I was pretty confident, but seeing how they’ve pretty much went out of their way to actively find ways to lose games recently, I am not 100% sure they’re not going to do that for the “lead” they have in the standings too.

So unfortunate. Honestly think I feel worse about the team right now than I did at the same point last year, which is weird since their in a playoff spot, but at the same time the team basically has the same P% from January 1st 2024 to March 25th as they had at the same date last year.

Yeah it’s disheartening and compounded by the fact that the injuries excuse doesn’t carry as much weight since they were playing like overall ass for a long stretch WITH Jack, Siegs, and Dougie in the lineup too.

If they were all healthy, maybe they would have turned it around and, by now, once again looked like they did early in the season. Unfortunately we will never know that.

Sigh

Absolute props to you. Tough to see how it's even possible not to be down on this team.

Sub .500% win percentage since the new year, blowing leads/points left and right right in the middle of a playoff race.

A very depressing and demoralizing few months.
I actually had to stop watching for a few games after that last second Dallas fiasco to get myself to where I could dive back in with more detachment. If you are a season ticket holder or going to the games that may not be possible.

But once I did, what I saw like last night was an undermanned and outgunned club that fell behind in the 1st period and fought like hell to get back in and then up to get a tough point. A tense see-saw game between 2 desperate teams. Playoff hockey to all effects. We’ve learned to play a whole different game this year under Keefe.

Send with 3 games in hand…. Here we go !!!

I want to just fast-forward to the end of the season right now to see what happens.

If they manage to at least get games to OT, they'll hang onto the #3 position but man...

When the same exact pattern happens with multiple coaches and multiple styles of play, it's time to discuss the players. The coach has changed, the GM has changed, but the core has pretty much remained intact. That is the scariest thing to me. They might need a really big shake up to the roster.
There are 8 players left from the 21-22 season, which was really bad. 14 players played in 22-23, which was an awesome season. And then there are currently 17 players this year left of the 23-24 team. Now, if the core is somehow rotten, why did the 22-23 season go so well? This is what is really strange.

I don't think the core is rotten. They are legitimately good players. There is just something missing there. Maybe that supporting cast in 22-23 had it.
