Exactly my point. Yes the devils play is concerning the last few weeks, but Carolina is playing middling hockey too. The east is wide open this year. Which is why I keep saying that getting healthy and getting some reinforcements are the two biggest things the rest of the way.

By this logic then a team like Washington who has actually a good roster playing great hockey should be the easy favorite to make it out of the East and then likely get ousted by whoever comes out of the west.
The East is mediocre overall but the devils have been straight up bad for a quarter of a season now. So much copium.

Vegas is 5-8-3 (13 pts in 16 games, or 0.41 ppg). Would you agree they are one of the better teams in the league overall, by all accounts?
Minnesota is 7-8-0 (14 pts in 15 games, or 0.47 ppg). Would you agree they are one of the better teams in the league overall, by all accounts?
Toronto is 7-6-0 (14 pts in 13 games, or 0.54 ppg). Would you agree they are one of the better teams in the league overall, by all accounts?
Colorado is 7-7-1 (15 pts in 15 games, or 0.5 ppg). Would you agree they are one of the better teams in the league overall, by all accounts?
Even Carolina is 8-5-2 (18 pts in 15 games or 0.6 ppg), which is okay but not GREAT. Would you agree they are one of the better teams in the league overall, by all accounts?
Again, this notion that "ONLY THE DEVILS HAVE STRETCHES LIKE THIS!" just is not true. You don't pay enough attention to what is going on in the rest of the league.
Now, I am EXCLUDING last night's game because that effort was unacceptable. Because I know that is going to be your first response.

Further evidence that Noesen was the exact type of player we’ve needed.
I know in previous years guys were definitely pissed off behind closed doors, but optically, as fans, it’s nice to see a player is clearly pissed off with their play too.

This can’t be serious. 13 games is not even close to a quarter of a season. The devils have 3 regulation wins in the last 18 games. This is dead last in the league. The only team in a playoff position who’s even in the same conversation is Vegas, whom you mentioned, and who by all accounts have still been playing well during that time period. The devils on the other hand were already not great on even strength offense prior to that stretch and have since been straight up junk offensively, because we have too much dead weight amongst our forward group and we are are also lacking puck movers who aren’t defensive liabilities on the back end, which certain folks just don’t want to admit.
Minnesota and Toronto are pretenders. Carolina is absolutely not as good as their reputation this year. Colorado is top heavy. And nonetheless none of those teams have been as bad as the devils going back to new years. The only team on that list that’s truly surprising is Vegas and it’s already been mentioned that they aren’t even playing bad despite their record. To say nothing of the fact that they have the most stacked roster in the league which common sense dictates that they get a lot more benefit of the doubt than a team who trotted out Dowling on the third line for nearly the entire season.

the Devils have played 56 games so far this season. Most other teams are anywhere between 53-55. One quarter of 56 is 14 games lol What are you EVEN talking about that "13 games is not even close to a quarter of the season" lmao? I am using YOUR parameters! You brought up the last quarter of the season, not me.
I JUST SHOWED YOU that those teams have the same or worse point % than the Devils do. Why do you hate factual evidence so much?
This was legitimately one of the worst games I can recall ever attending. I just about never leave a game early, but was gone with maybe 6 minutes left. Missed NJ's goal but couldn't care less - just an awful, absolutely boring, putrid performance last night.

And not only that but you ignore that most of the teams you cited are in fact not as great as anticipated.

It felt like one of the awful games of nightmare seasons of the past. I wish I had just used a buyback for this one. I only went cause I'm not going to the Dallas game on the 22nd and there's not another home game until March 7th.

You originally said a quarter of the season. You did NOT say "a quarter of a full season". So I went back a quarter of the season, and showed you the results. Even if you use the Devils last 20 games (1/4 of the season), their point % is right in line with Tampa, Vegas, and not much worse than Carolina or Toronto.
at this point in the season, points are all that matter. In regulation, overtime, or the shootout. Just keep stacking points.
Who is "Baghdad Bob"ing? Not me. They need to be better. They need to get healthier. They need reinforcements. I am sorry that I don't think "The season is over because they struggled in Month 4 of 6 of the regular season!" Your entire claim the past few weeks is that "good teams don't have stretches like this". I just showed you plenty of good teams in THIS season that are having similar stretches.

No just because Washington has peaked in the regular season doesn't mean shit, the NHL playoffs probably has the biggest variance in pro sports because teams get second wind + improve the most at the deadline. I get the doomerism feelings but not everything has to be woe is me with them. They suck and have sucked for a month. They were also elite for a stretch in December. They're probably in the middle of how good they truly are.
You had me until that last sentence fragment. My typing can be a bit sloppy and I don't always catch autocorrects but my sentences are better than that. Besides, I've always maintained that he is the best 3C on this team bar none. My recollection is that the Laine for Hischier trade suggestion went all the way back to Laine's decline in Winnipeg. Of course, now that Laine is in Montreal his trade value starts at Hischier and Nemec and NJ will have to keep adding.

The Hischier for Laine Thread was from when Laine was with Columbus, who eventually had to add their 2026 2nd pick to move him at his full 8.7m contract in 2024.
I’m not even sure who the 3 Stooges of Doom are at this point, because in my mind, you gotta add another 0 after that 3 to that to make it more realistic
Noesen's comments are exactly what we need coming from inside the locker room. That is leadership. And can only come from the players themselves
In that context I like Keefe's comments also. They work together with Noesen's. There are only so many times a coach can yell at his team (or badmouth them to the press which is worse) until he loses the locker room. It's better if the hard truth like last night comes from guys holding each other accountable and not from the coach, who can remain positive with the press.
They all know what's what.
After seeing out defense struggle, I also think we had best keep our old pairings together as much as possible without Siegenthaler. Coordination between a pair is so important. The means Luke with Pesce. Dillon with Hamilton. Who plays with Kovy therefore? I am not so wedded to Nemec being here that I wouldn't maybe use the next left hander available and to hell with what Nemec thinks. We don't want to have to rebuild all three pairs for the end of the season. It's perilous.

Quarter of A season. A season. Not THE season. I’ve also explicitly mentioned the number of games being talked about, many times. You know exactly what I meant.
“points are all that matter” and points percentage is not a positive commentary on how the team is playing. Having 3 regulation wins across such a large sampling of games, the worst in the entire league, is much more telling and you know it.
And as usual, you had to throw in a couple of strawmans to really drive home the fake narrative. I’ve never said “the season is over”. My point through all this has been that evidence is building that the team is not as high quality as anticipated, and is almost certainly closer to wildcard level than legit cup contender. Saying that my “entire point” is that good teams don’t have bad stretches is also a flat out lie, devoid of any and all context I have provided in every post/discussion about this topic. But that’s just what you do.

The funny thing is we're still only 2 points back of Carolina, who hasn't been much better than us over the last 30 or so games. The way some in the fanbase act you'd think we're on a 10 game losing streak and bombing out of the playoffs.
