My favorite was the 3rd goal. Literally slid out of position for a puck that went right in (yes deflected), but the guy was playing like Vitek tonight.

Meier is a problem and we lost Zetterlund who is a perfect bottom 6 player for our team. Also, Nemec was a great pick and deserves to be in the lineup over Luke. Nemec first season was better than anything Luke has done.

Mercer at 36.9% xG at 5 on 5 tonight. I get he is primarily a winger now, but he is a guy who has to be able to step in at center when needed and he just can’t.

Pretty much all of problems right now have to do with depth down the middle being hollowed out. I would venture to guess a big part of Luke and Pesce’s step back this month is finding themselves on ice with weaker centers more.

The center issue is primarily on Fitz for not managing the McLeod situation right, but Mercer not being able to pinch hit in the middle is a big part of that.

I think majority here have expressed concerns with the depth. Ive been asking for two forwards all season. Fitz will eventually do that.

Meh. Luke had a stretch this season where he played like a true stud #1 man . There was a stretch there where he was playing Norris nominee worthy D . It was only for a dozen games or so but still . Hopefully it’s just a flu bug with him and he can return to playing like he was . I have no issue with Luke in the lineup right now . He will turn things around.

Correct but this Devils team lost has to bad teams while healthy like San Jose twice this year, so it's not an excuse or something that should take them out of game. They can beat the Flyers, Sabres and Penguins on that list, question is if they show up at puck drop or half way through the game

What? Who would you draft over Nemec? The only player you can argue about is Cooley but he hasn't cemented himself either. Silayev hasn't even stepped into the league yet and you're bashing him? If that dude pans out he's a complete unicorn. Holtz was a bust and of course Palat's contract money can be better spent but that's not what has handicapped the team. What's killing the team right now is losing McLeod and not finding his replacement. I also think Meier is being completely misused. Dude played his best as a RW and we don't use him there at all. Look at his goal tonight, he went to the right side and sniped it which is what classic Timo from SJ did. We get PP1 and we throw a random player like Tatar out there instead of Timo? It's complete misuse of him. What GM signs a 9 million dollar winger just to not play him on the PP and play him on his off wing?

Ya Allen overplayed the original shot big time . Almost slid into the corner … left an entire net open . Over reacted / over played the shot massivly and slid way out of position . Over playing the shot and getting out of position has cost him a few goals this season. He needs to stay more in control and be square to the shot and come out a little more . He isn’t 6’4” … a goal or two tonight normally hits a goalie and makes the save save on positioning alone . I know , easier said than done but feels like every other goalie in the league we play against finds ways to do make the saves we needed tonight .

Team's depth + finishing is bad, you can fix the former somewhat in season, I'm not sure what the latter has been a result of honestly. The more I watch, the more I think they just have stupid luck with shitty guys getting A+ chances like tonight guys who were having the best chances were complete offensive black holes like a Dowling, etc.

It reakky reakky sucks we “ lost “ McLeod . He was a beast in the playoffs the one year and looked like he finally found his game . He would be exactly what we need right now . Am very very good 4C who could fill in at 3c even .
Haula is cooked . He is no longer a good 3c and us say not even a good 4C ( given what you want your 4C to do - name and crash and forecheck hard / hard to play against )

The forward depth was unlikely to be something to be fixed because of where the Devils spent their money this off-season. They could've tried to roll with Bahl and gotten another forward; they valued someone like Dillon more. I'd much rather try to upgrade at forward at the deadline than on defense, and I think the UFA market this season is much better for forwards than defense too.
