Bratt totally flubbed the shot. It was fluttering end over end. He got lucky it went in and I think that's why he didn't celebrate much.
The puck was waffling as it got to Bratt so it was good enough that he got the shot on net at all.

I agree with you that he probably felt a little fortunate on the goal so didn’t go wild.

Look at all of those wide turns and the soft perimeter play. Hughes doesn't have that man strength from playing against men that will lead to being a franchise player like Kappo Kakko.

Was there a discussion on this? Because I can't remember one celebration where Bratt was not "muted". It's just the way he is and I like it. He's done it before and acts like it.

Yes, it was briefly mentioned when it happened. I agree that Bratt is usually a little more restrained than some others, but compare this to his seven second goal against Edmonton, this was a lot more muted.

Holtz actually had a couple of nice shot blocks too...not that I want him to be a Torts-style soldier but it's nice he has enough recognition to do so.

Even more amazing when you consider 0-2 and down 0-2 in the third game of the season
Eight year rebuilds are great when you get to year 8.

I knew Hughes's shift before creating that goal was ridiculous, but I hadn't seen the full sequence again like that until now.

Holy shit, what wizardry with the puck. Looked like the Hawks were standing still half the time in that clip.

Enjoyed this game (even though once more the Devils seem to have trouble getting out of the gates in the 1st period).

What I didn't enjoy was this :

I mean I get that he is probably there to see his equally-douchey son play but why is MSG giving this sh-tstain any air-time at all?
and they do it every year. I'm getting sick of a turd on 9 out of 10 sides getting featured every time he's around just because he and Dano are buddies. Being a pal to Mr. Devil doesn't carry the day to the fanbase for what he did to Scotty Niedermayer in the playoffs.

Imagine having Luke Hughes on the point during those sequences instead of Smith

Good win! Based on highlights it seems Dougie couldve had a hatty on a lucky night.

May i ask for one of you history nerds to look it up who was the latest Devils defenseman with a hat trick? I'd guess Rafalski.

Hughes passes the puck hard on those seam passes to get it through the penalty kill and it’s perhaps not easy to handle. Bratt had been shanking those passes repeatedly until this one. It was super to see that shot go in.

They should really work on that like 100 reps every occasion they can find because if they get a good feel for executing that one timer it will transform our power play. For example Leon Draisaitl lives off those one timers from the low half wall where Bratt still appears to look uncomfortable handling the cross ice feed.

So I have a take on the muted Bratt celly.

It was really nice finish, one timed a hard pass just under the crossbar, but Bratt didn't celebrate too hard because Hughes's pass was the real star there.

I think players handle it different ways, When Dougie finished Hughes's pass he was animated but pointing at Hughes. Other guys like Bratt, if they think the pass was better than the goal they just mute their celly a little bit. He did have a big smile on his face.
Yeah but :

Nothing will make Bratt smile anymore.

Hes all business!

:sarcasm:

Hey they won even thou it was Chicago, which is rebuilding. My complaint is that they gave up 3 odd man rushes in the first period, almost 4 if it wasn’t for Graves making a solid play defensively. Not sure if it’s their style or it was Chicago and they didn’t take them seriously. If they were playing a team with more finish they might have been in trouble. They definitely need to tighten up. They have a tough schedule coming up.
