They weren’t playing well even at 2-0. If say they were up by 2 going into the 3rd then yea it’s inexcusable to lose/not get a point at least. There was just so much time left at 2-0. I’m just pissed they self destructed in 5 mins. It’s pathetic and an indictment on the coaches and players. I don’t remember any games like that last year and we have had multiple this year already.
the problem is that it was so obvious this was coming. they were getting caved and boston was buzzing and they just rolled over and let them take the game. when boston tied it they should have called a timeout to settle but nope.

and vitek has been better of late, but last night was a textbook collapse that he’s been prone to at times this season. once the floodgates open he can’t close them and it lets games get out of hand. hopefully daws can play well.

seriously though why haven’t we fired our goaltending coach?? why does everyone look good when they first come up from the all squad but suck balls when they work with rogalski? dude has not done a single thing in however long he’s been here to deserve being kept.

I think he's gone after this year, no matter what. Unless we win the cup or a DEEP playoff run. I think even a playoff berth and they're moving on. Maybe they let him stay one more year in that case? Depending on if he's still under or not after this year? Nas was apparently not be under contract after 21-22 and we just let him go and didn't extend him. I think Recchi may have still had a year or two left on his deal when we got rid of them that year.

If there was a goalie coach in danger of being fired in-season without a head coaching change also being made, I think it's Rogalski.

I'm not saying it's gonna happen, but I can honestly see his firing coming like any day now.

It would be about as shocking as the Samsonov on waivers news from today, which wasn't shocking at all.

The goalie coach is awful. Hopefully Rogalski doesn’t have enough time to poison Daws. Maybe by that time Schmid will be fixed by the guy in the minors

Rogalski to me has the hottest seat of any goalie coach in the league right now.

Hotter than the Carolina guy, whoever he is. Waaayyyyyy hotter than the Toronto guy. Only Samsonov has played poorly there. Other goalies have been fine.

If someone thinks there's a goalie coach with a hotter seat than him right now then I'd like to know who it is.

But maybe I'm wrong and he's back next year? Not a good hire by Marty, particularly when you consider the guy he was replacing was a pretty renowned goalie coach for years in the league, and he wasn't doing anything wrong, other than not being able to reverse Cory Schneider's decline, which began even before he was brought in. That's WHY he was brought in in the first place.

Keith Kinkaid having his own nervous breakdown and blowing up? He had a career year under Melanson the season before that.

Blackwood was fine at the NHL level (not the AHL level) when Melanson was here. He was looked at as the goalie of the future at the time. Firing a goalie coach he was working well with was fixing something that just wasn't broken.

So yeah, regardless of why Rogalski was brought in, his tenure has been a FAILURE.

That said, I don't blame him for everything. You can't expect Jon Gillies will play well in the NHL. He's not even 30 years old and he's not even signed to play anywhere this year the last I knew. Not even in the AHL/ECHL or Europe. Still says he's an unrestricted free agent.

I don't blame him for 35 year old Andrew Hammond struggling at the NHL level. 25 year old Hammond wasn't even ever looked at as a possible NHL goalie.

But he's not helping matters.

I wonder if they even remember they have a Goaltender Coach at this point....

Rogalski is NEVER mentioned anywhere except on the internet and here.

And it's frustrating because WE CAN SEE HE'S THE PROBLEM (and we have a large body of work to see this) but it doesn't seem like Fitz sees it.

They usually aren’t fired midseason. It almost never happens when they aren’t also going out along with the head coach.

And last year the goalies were fine, other than the goalie that has been bad for most of his pro career. So they weren’t gonna fire him after last year.

Let’s see if he survives this year. He MAY, but if things don’t turn around for Vitek (I don’t think they will too much, but I also don’t think there’s anything Rogalski can do there or even a new goalie coach unless it’s a new goalie coach on a new team somewhere else) and the kids don’t improve much, he’s gone this offseason.

Maybe he’s safe as long as we make the playoffs? Who knows? He’s an auto fire if we don’t IMO.

I don’t know what situation any other team’s Goalie coach is in.

The Carolina coach consulted for 2 years and then took over in 2020-21. They’ve had really good goaltending until this season under him. This year Andersen got injured early and Raanta is probably cooked at 34.

Kochetkov has been improving after a rough start.

Hell, just take away his first 3 starts:

The Toronto Coach from 2015-16 to 2021-22 went to the Kraken.

Good old Curtis Sanford is the new guy, after working for the Vancouver AHL team.

Curtis Sanford is a blast from the past. One of the more rando goalies I can remember.

We beat him in a shootout (2-1 final score) when I was visiting for Thanksgiving, my first year living down here. That was before Columbus was in our division or even conference and we started losing to them 75%-80% of the time we played them for 10 years.

“Keith Kinkaid having his own nervous breakdown and blowing up? He had a career year under Melanson the season before that.”

Melanson was here from 2017–18 to 2019-20. Kinkaid had already played well as a back-up before he came and he was horrific in 2018-19.
And even 2017-18 was a tale of two seasons.

Kinkaid played 16 more NHL games over 4 more seasons after NJ, so it’s not Melanson’s fault he wasn’t a NHL goalie, but Kinkaid wasn’t his success story alone.

Blackwood definitely peaked under Melenson, though his bad start in 2019-20 helped get everyone fired. Hard to blame Rogalski when his three seasons were the COVID meat grinder season and two seasons when he was hampered by multiple injuries.

I’m all for dumping Rogalski, just to be clear lol. Melanson hasn’t worked anywhere else since his contract wasn’t renewed though, as far as I can tell.

Of course I remember the tale of two seasons for Kinkaid. Which is why I made the proclamation around January of 2018 that Kinkaid won’t be in the league in two years from now. He made it one month away from two years when the Canadiens waived him in December of 2019. He’s been back to the NHL since, but only strictly on an injury call up basis.

I still think that was a career year for Kinkaid, because he did it in a pretty high number of games. Whereas his good seasons before that were as a clear cut backup to Schneider.

It didn’t sustain itself though, as when they tried that again the next year (40+ games of Kinkaid) it didn’t work.

And he was on pace to playing close to 60 games that year when he played his final game of the season. He just didn’t play again after February, but I think he was pacing for 55 games that year.

Melanson is probably done coaching at the NHL level now. He’s now age 63.

From what I remember he wasn’t even fired by Vancouver. I think he stepped down to help take care of his mother who was ill. Shero called him up in 2017 to try and get Schneider going again. And he probably also wanted to hire his own guy. Which also probably had something to do with why the current regime fired Melanson. Marty and Fitz wanted their own new guy in here. Marty was not yet working here at the time Melanson was brought in.
