Ahhhh, an error in the GDT title. Bruins have more than 40 pts. That why we lost

As much as this one sucked the fact that we're still right there in terms of the playoffs despite the goaltending, defensive issues, injuries, and everything else gives me some optimism. I don't think there are massive glaring deficiencies except in goal, and it's not as if the market for them is all that great. Gibson, given his age and contract, could easily blow up in our faces just as much as any of our other goalie moves in recent years.

This team has the talent to be better, and they have been overall (11-5-1 in their last 17). It's just frustrating how bad they've been in these b2b situations. It'd be one thing if they were an older team but these guys really shouldn't look as out of gas as they do at times. I don't know if it's just a lack of focus or what. One would think the coaching staff would realize its something they should maybe figure out, especially given they were good in these situations just last season.

B2B’s suck, but this team will not make the playoffs if they lose 16 games due to B2B’s.

Its bad, when I don’t know, if I want the Devils to get scored on first or have a lead?

Honestly, Lindy needs to go. Its nothing against the guy, but he is failing to motivate the team. The win against the Sens, was as close to a complete game the Devils have had all year, but they gave up the first goal and they still allowed the other team to cycle for good stretches in their zone.

In the Ducks game Gibson is out to start the third and it would of been perfect time to rally. Test the goalie. The Devils got dominated in the third. In an early Washington game, they busted their asses to make it a 3-3 game and get dominated in the third. The losses against lesser competition is also concerning.

If the Devils have a crappy goalie, maybe they shouldn’t get trapped in their zone for most of the period.

Hey, Lindy call an F$&king time out. Its not just used for making plays when the goalie is pulled.

I’d have to dive into the actual goaltending numbers for them, but I have to imagine the overall inconsistencies in goal help contribute to those back-to-back losses too. Sometimes that is enough to drive a stake into a game early.

I’ll have to look at each individual performance out of curiosity to see how bad it’s really been.

I was curious myself, so these are just the team results in them...

4--3 SOL
6-4 L
4-1 L
7-2 W
6-3 L
4-1 L
5-1 L
5-2 L

We've been outscored 20-7 in the last 4.

This is always the case around here.

It's NEVER just the Goaltender's fault.

It's always "yeah but...the team".

Can we stop making excuses for Vitek SUCKING ASS, please?

The goaltender is the last line of defense when teams have breakdowns defensively.

I thought we got rid of that issue when we gave Blackwood the boot...but now we have someone else following in his footsteps (skates), for god's sake! :pullhair:

Vitek has GOT TO GO.

(and before someone comes back at me with a smartass reply like "duh...who we gonna replace him with?", I'll save you the trouble with an answer of "That's not my job to figure out. That's Fitz's. But it needs to be figured out or the Devils players are going to be going home for the offseason when the Regular season ends.")

If Schmid has just been ass then it's not the worst ass I've ever seen. It may not be a hot one, but it ain't swamp ass.

Vitek has been SWAMP ASS.

And Vitek has SUSTAINED this HORRIFIC play in a significant number of games, while Schmid didn't even get 15?

Daws needs to be actually given the chance to play a good chunk of games, because the other option isn't getting it done.
Why do I get the feeling you're speaking from experience in regards to ass?

You some sort of "Cake" specialist? :naughty:

Siegenthaler Stinks. Terrible decision making and Vitek isn’t any better. As for the team they seem to have a hard time against heavy teams as well as contenders. They’ll be fortunate to make the playoffs. They’re just lucky that teams like the Islanders and caps aren’t much better. We’ll see what happens against Washington, another team we have a hard time beating.

Sieg has sucked, hate to say it but he and Marino need to step up in a major way.

They’re not going to give Daws the bulk of the starts, he’ll be lucky if he gets half.
Then just punt the season because it’s over.

Vitek has way overachieved in wins with how brutally horrible he’s played. That’s due for a drop off.

And Ruff should already prepare to be doing something else next year because he’s digging his grave. Vitek is putting him right in it.

Ruff also didn’t think anything of giving him about 66%-75% of the starts two years ago when all we had behind him was Jon Gillies.

Folks, it will be very difficult for NJ to NOT make the playoffs. Caps and Isles aren’t good. Devils also been trending upwards for the last month. We went from behind Wings, Habs, Pens and Tampa to being in front of them all and tied in a wild card with a freefalling Caps while only 3 pts back of 2nd. Devils can make it with the way they are currently playing.

If they continue improving and get the magical average goaltending? Then they are back in discussion as a potential noise maker in the postseason
We were never actually behind those teams. They were only ahead by points because of more games played. Don’t ever look at raw point totals in the standings in the middle of the season.

They have treaded water the last month. We were 1st out by percentage a month ago a half game to game out, and they are in the same place. In that time the Hurricanes have passed us on percentage. But being on the outside looking in when the schedule starts to compress and you haven’t handled many games in a short time span well is concerning.

Do I think they still make it? Yes, especially if they win on Wednesday and take the head to head vs. the Caps.

I think we’re cooked this year considering Vitek gets a huge chunk of the starts.

Use this season as growth and maturing and come back stronger. Also use it to identify what needs to change.

Dude we are still in the playoff hunt. This isn't a write off season. If Daws can somehow save us in goal than it makes us a better team 100%. Vitek had been better in his last few games too. The season isn't lost. Fitzgerald is probably going to make a move soon.

We are running at a 105 pt pace when Vitek starts

The team is obviously good enough to win in spite of goaltending

I said considering Vitek gets a huge chunk of the starts. This team isn’t making the playoffs with the system they have and their goaltending sporting a sub .885% sv%. It would be lucky to do so.
