As a former goalie, I hate the reverse VH and Markstrom went down too early but that was just a sick play to set up and sick shot across Markstrom that Svech had. It happens.

Ofc it was a good shot, but his positioning was godawful imo

I don't really agree that this wasn't their best. Considering competition I think this literally was one of their best games all year. I mean they ran over the Wings and Ducks but those are the Wings and Ducks. Against teams that matter I think this is the 2nd best game they've played this year only behind the Canucks one.

Canucks are having a 23-24 version of our season last year, they were definitely great that game though. I'd put this game up there cause of the team, Carolina is a big boogyman for this team, was great to see they didn't fold after the Svech goal

i can’t get over how smart that play on the hand pass stoppage was for Kovacevic.

the puck goes behind the net, he taps the player on the leg to make him feel like he’s gonna join him and the Canes player blindly throws it in front. Kovy waiting there to deflect it. so smart

Yeah, I said that in the post, he probably should've just challenged regularly but the thought process is Svech goes across him and he goes 5 hole or backhand to the far post. Markstrom would play that differently if you show him the tape I bet, he lost his net a lot there

Another scenario where last year that early 3rd period goal for Carolina would have spiralled into a 4-2 loss or something. Markstrom made several big saves after that and allowed the boys to regroup. Much different team than last season. Huge to get the win and not allow the Canes to get a point at the same time

Markstrom was positive on the goals vs expected goals tonight and only gave up 2 with a .909 save percentage.

He wasn’t a monster but he played well.

And winning against a division rival is big too. Banking these points now gives us a cushion above the playoff cut line in the Metro for when we inevitably hit a skid.
