Do you have to make myopic points for the sake of being 110% literal? Obviously it doesn't, I was just saying he had a good debut last night and showed a lot more skill than general 'fourth liners' do.

He had an okay debut. He scored a goal and managed 4 shots but struggled defensively.

Clearly with this lineup the Devils are not going with a traditional 4th line - they can barely even make one if they're trying to.

that was his nhl debut, with a new team in a new country...i’d say it was better than ‘okay’. and personally, i don’t really give a shit how a guy like gusev is defensively

I would've loved to have seen

Hall-Hischier-Palmieri
Coleman-Zajac-Simmonds
Wood-Zacha-Bratt
Gusev-Hughes-Boqvist

Zacha plays very well with Bratt, Hughes and Gusev showed a lot of chemistry, and the top 6 is the top 6.
I get the logic of playing Zacha with Gusev. Pavel is arguably our best defensive forward and could potentially make up for Gusev's defensive weaknesses.

I don't love Wood with Hughes and Bratt, but maybe it works.

Hynes' answer was Miles Wood? Really? When Blake Coleman is staring you right in the friggin' face?

This dude is as clueless as it gets.

Yesterday I said the only choice he could have made yesterday to "stabilize" the Hughes line that would be worse than Hayden is Wood  I wonder if he is just trolling.

You're saying 'I don't care how good of a player Gusev is'. That's fine. We don't have anything to discuss.

Well, we do need the offensive talent so I see what he's saying. It would affect line combinations though as it means you need to pair him wit players that are good defensively like Zacha as opposed to another defensive question in Hughes.

Not even close. Best PKer but not the best 5v5 defensive forward. 5th at best behind Zajac, Coleman, Palms and Nico. Hall's defensive impact is also better but for some reason people always act like he sucks defensively

Idk why people keep saying Hughes will have a bounce back game....is it the same people who were predicting him to get 80 points this season? It was expected he would have some struggles early on, I'm not surprised at all and it wasn't really a "bad" game for him, just a "welcome to the nhl".

He's had some good plays and some bad plays....like a normal 18 yr old would do.

Getting outshot 7-20 when you're on the ice is to put it lightly a bad game. I don't see how he doesn't have a bounce back game because that is putrid

I mean you don’t have to expect him to be an all star to expect a bounce back effort. If he consistently plays like he did yesterday, he won’t be here.
