Carey Price is not remotely close to as valuable as Auston Matthews... There is another sided you aren't considering which would be marketing ability... A superstar forward like Matthews will sell far more gear and be a face of the NHL, and that absolutely factors into his trade value. No goalie will ever be worth a Matthews caliber player in a trade.

Wow.

Well pre-Pheonix move..it was the Oilers.

Different teams these days, they're trying to rekindle that battle with the outdoor game this year, but I think it's safe to say we're not really anywhere close to a rivalry with them today. Edmonton vs Calgary, that's a rivalry. Edmonton vs Winnipeg is just another game today imo.

Nothing comes even close for McDavid. It's more interesting to look at our 2nd most valuable asset, I think it's Drai.

Drai + (not sure the plus)

for

Brodie.

Snap, the Wild's biggest rivals are, the North Stars, the past, the Gophers, high school hockey ....

Wish someone would choose to actually hate the Wild, and please, put the "boring" **** to rest.

I would rather lose the Maple Leafs to Quebec City than trade Auston Matthews to Montreal.

Anyone wanna claim the Preds as their biggest rival just for fun? Won't see a proposal involving us unless someone does.

Nucks don't have a rival so I guess we can be nemeses.

I actually like your team a lot tho.

...no, he's not; at least not yet...at least give the kid a year or two to prove he's the next Big Thing before claiming he's soo valuable, not just two games...

I am a bit confused here, who is Toronto's most valuable asset if not for Matthews? Only other player I can think of at the moment is Reilly and I highly doubt that Reilly will be the better player between the two of them in the not to distant future. Regardless, I don't think that the original poster was talking about best current player on the team, but the player who is most valuable to the franchise as a whole...

Carey Price and Galchenyuk for Tuuka Rask and Patrice Bergeron.

With a + going one way or the other.

Something like that.

You wouldn't trade a #1D on a budget team with 3 years of control left before he commands $10M+ on the open market for a franchise #1C who has at least 7 years of control? I guess we'll have to disagree on that.

Karlsson is much more then just a #1D and Matthews is not a franchise C yet.

The Habs didn't seem to care much for marketability when they traded the very marketable PK Subban. And the Leafs are about twice as rich as the Habs, I'm guessing they don't care much for a player's marketability either.

Price's jersey was the 5th best seller last year by the way.

The value of both players is debatable, but your argument to make it not even close is weak.
