Wishlist includes:

Jake McCabe
Brandon Hagel
*depending on health * Miles Wood
Nick Paul
Soucy *if the Hawks won't move McCabe
Lauzon
Miller / McCann

The health of Muzzin is going to dictate what the Leafs should do at the deadline. Muzzin hasn't really looked steady this year and I think the miles are starting to add up. Regardless of who they acquire, he's probably the guy that's heading out the door to fit Rielly's extension and Campbell's new contract.

McCabe is more in the mold of TJ Brodie, who is the reliable defender that is low maintenance and just gives you steady minutes. He's the #1 target for me, but only if they can "Kucherov" Muzzin's injury til the playoffs.

Hagel is the grinder that you're looking for come playoff time. He would be the guy that would replace Engvall on the 4th line, when the time gets less to make plays and it gets more physical.

Miles Wood would be the guy that can move up and down the line-up. He would need to take Mikheyev's spot. Does it make sense, likely not? But I think he's a great complimentary player that you could move anywhere in the lineup.

Nick Paul would play a great playoff style. Not a super fast skater, but he's physical and can play on the 2nd/3rd line.

Soucy & Lauzon is the back-up plan to hedge against injuries/trades of other players. etc.

The JT Miller and Jared McCann player is to be instead of Kerfoot. I think Kerfoot's game has improved a lot this season and that 2nd line has a decent mix. But regardless of contract, if you had to choose 1, who would you rather have out of Miller/McCann/Kerfoot? Which player puts you over the edge in terms of playoff perfomance, physicality and total ability?

Miller, as others have said already. He scores, plays with some attitude, and has term.

but what I really like is that he managed to score a lot on a very bad Vancouver team this year. We’ve lacked scoring in the playoffs, and he seems like the kind of player who’s not going to just falter because other stars/players on the team are.

I’d go for some more toughness on the back end too, but can’t get too greedy I guess.

I think if they acquire Mayfield, it's to keep Holl as well.

Rielly-Brodie
Muzzin-Mayfield
Sandin-Holl

^That's a great top 6 IMO

Dubas already traded a 1st in the past for Jake Muzzin, and I would imagine that he would be willing to do again this year to attempt to bring in another Dman of his similar level.

If that player is Jakob Chychrun its likely to cost him a 1st and prospect and roster player.

Vancouver gets: Ritchie + 2022 1st + Robertson + SDA

Arizona gets: $2.625 million cap hit from Miller + $1 mill cap hit from DeMelo + 2023 2nd + 2023 3rd

Toronto gets: Miller @ $2.625 mill + DeMelo @ $2 mill

Winnipeg gets: Dermott + 2023 4th

Jake McCabe and Marc-Andre Fleury (50% retained)
FOR
Travis Dermott + Petr Mrazek + Nick Ritchie + Roni Hirvonen

Salaries almost match, Leafs would free up 300k.

McCabe even though a lefty can play the right side similar to Brodie.

Ritchie + Dermott out (plus futures)
JT miller + Luke Schenn in.

Didn't Keefe scratch Dermott for a few games in the playoffs last year? I like him but I think it's time to part ways. If they can rid themselves of Ritchie without giving up much - win, win.

We need a Miller type and I'd add a depth d-man too. Better than a depth d-man would be great but not sure that's happening

When was the last time there was a 4 team trade?

We already employ a better Mayfield. His names Justin Holl

I don't fall in love with advanced stats too much because they can never truly isolate a player away from his context especially the system he plays. I've seen a lot of Mayfield and Holl and I think Mayfield is much better and has an ability to skate and play up the ice which is really under utilized by the Islanders. On the same team, Mayfield would definitely outshine Holl.

Another guy I've really enjoyed watching is Ilya Lyubushkin who might have hidden upside and is worth a low cost acquisition.

Hathaway rocking McDavid and flipping Kane into the Caps bench  is the kind of grit this team is missing. We have nobody who will wear down the star players of other teams. I'm actually really envious of the Caps getting to deploy Ovi Wilson and Hathaway in the playoffs. That really sucks for their opponents, bruises all day.

You gotta be kidding me with Simmonds / Clifford / Ritchie options. Even Spezza hasn't done enough to guarantee a spot in the playoffs.

Scott Laughton for 3C and moving Kampf to 4C makes a lot of sense for playoffs. Kampf retains his majority share of PK time of course. Laughton has some sneaky grit.

Laughton + a Hathaway type is all this team is missing if you ask me. We can do this without breaking the bank too bad.

Then grab some backup d-men incase of injuries or young guys tanking. But that's normal trade deadline stuff so not really a wish list.

Edit: In this scenario I am removing Simmonds and Spezza. Engvall has earned full time honors.

I think it was X66 that brought up Parise. I'll go with Parise (an energy player at this point in his career and I don't want to tinker with the forwards too much) and my own pick is Adam Larsson (solid shutdown defenceman with a solid breakout pass).

This is essentially it. Some people here think you have to drop the gloves to be gridy

We don't have a constant forechecker who actually hits and hits often. Simmonds Ritchie are just too slow

Last player who was willing to hit and play was Kadri. Of course he went a bit overboard with his stuff

Florida has 2-3 key players that can play the game

I thought Simmonds was turning a corner. The game has left him.
Clifford cannot be counted upon and has no game what so ever

Miller yes. Schenn is the least desirable dman in NHL.

I really didn't like the idea of trading multiple picks and starting a rebuild around Luke Schenn, but I think his value is as a 30 something grizzled veteran with very recent cup winning experience. Now would be the time to grab him and put him in a Bogosian type role. Very similar strengths though Schenn may have less of a mean streak and a little less ability with the puck.

Jt miller or max domi if cheap

I would take a fly with domi. Has some offense and willing to play the dirty game
We need someone or something to throw some hits.

I think Boston gets Miller.

Additions:
Johan Larson, Lawson Crouse, Hagel, Borgstrom, Michael Mcleod, Lehkonen, Nic Paul
Soucy, Schenn, De Haan, Demelo, Siegenthaler, Mayfield, Miller

Subtractions:
Kerfoot (sell high, preferably for a cheaper guy with term)
Ritchie
Dermott

Goal is to get faster in the bottom 6 with one other + attribute.
Larsson, Lehkonen = Defensive minded
Paul, Crouse = Big bodies who have snarl but arent liabilities defensively.
Borgstrom, Mcleod = Added C depth and speed.
Hagel and Crouse are the only ones who might have top 6 abilities.

Defense, goal is to either add a #4 who can play with Muzzin, or be a good #6/spare who (if injuries happen) brings a calming presence. Preferably can PK.
Soucy, De Haan, Demelo, Mayfield, Miller = A guy to play with Muzzin who I think compliments his style.
Schenn, Siegenthaler = Guys who help with depth, and are defense first.

To Toronto: J.T. Miller (50% retained)
To Vancouver: Alex Kerfoot + Nick Robertson + 2023 1st Round Draft Pick

Cap Savings: 875k

To Toronto: Connor Murphy + Marc-Andre Fleury (50% retained)
To Chicago: Petr Mrazek + Travis Dermott + Nick Ritchie + Roni Hirvonen

Cap Savings: 450k

Bunting - Matthews - Marner
Miller - Tavares - Nylander
Mikheyev - Kampf - Kase
Engvall - Spezza - Simmonds

Rielly - Murphy
Muzzin - Brodie
Sandin - Liljegren/Holl

Campbell - Fleury

I honestly think that is a true Stanley Cup contending roster. Ideally we’d use the cap savings in acquiring a better 4th line center but I’ll just leave it as those two moves.
Nothing wrong with that 4 centre for a cup run. Can win draws, can run a PP, can move up in the lineup, tough and willing to play physical.
