My guess you have to be in the room, not even best buddies with someone from the room to know. Best buddies are still going to get a personal slanted view of the situation.

I don't think you'll get a reasoned and logical explanation for the "favorite" or "like" factor in here.

Most people wouldn't know the players if they backed over them with their cars.

More projection, and taken to extremes any reported or suggested scenario.

Completely different than asking who are the better players, in which case the discussion might include analysis of some fact.

No different than at work where someone might be a complete jerk to some and a great teammate to others. You can have very effective co-workers who are a-holes. You just lock them in a room and slide a food tray to them under the door.

McMann type of player is easy to like.
oh I know all that Ulf, I was looking forward to hearing which fantasy they were drawing their conclusions from:popcorn:

The three players I like the most:

Tavares
Rielly
McMann

The three players I like the least:

None.

I do have players that aren't exactly my favourites, but I think almost every player that makes the NHL deserves a considerable amount of respect, and I almost always refuse to dis them.

Every NHL player is absolutely a talented and amazing athlete. You don't make it to that level by accident. Those who say this player is awful or that player is garbage should compare their own abilities to those they are speaking about.

Some players lose my respect because of character flaws, but they are few and far between. Even then, there is always the opportunity for self-improvement and to make amends. People are not one-dimensional.

Even the worst player on the Leafs -- or any NHL roster -- is deserving of respect.

Reaves - useless in terms of what he was signed to do...because he ain't doin' it
Holmberg - Hasn't taken that step. Probably never will.
Rielly - this is hard because he was a dynamic, scoring D who could skate like the wind, which made up for his sometimes boneheaded defensive lapses. Now...he seems to have lost a step, won't shoot, is an absolute mess on the PP. I don't know what happened but he is an utter disappointment. I wouldn't miss him is they somehow managed to deal him away.

Also - Timmons - when he first got here, players were raving about his point shot in practice. A bomb, they said. Well...where is it? He's had some PP time, but I've hardly ever seen him wind up and drill it. Maybe he's been told not to...maybe he did once and it bounced back past him and he got burned on SH breakaway? I don't know. Should change his last name to Tim-id, I guess,.

Not sure what happened to Holmberg. He looked like he has some oomph to his game.

Now pretty well looks like he holding back.

I wish you this was “of all time”….because there are a few players on the Leafs I absolutely loathed on defense.

Can’t say I “dislike” any of the current players.

what's with all of the Kampf hate?

is he a bit overpaid? Yes

but this is the only guy who gives even a lick of production in the entire bottom six come playoff time

if we wanna talk about vanilla players who disappear just look at jarnkrok, ffs look at any nashville player currently there or on a new team. They all suck come playoff tiem

tell us about his off ice antics?

I'd also love to hear why Marner is a locker room cancer, which is almost as silly as calling the Leafs assist leader over the last 9 or so years selfish??????

The froth rarely, if ever, makes sense.

This is why discussions about Marner often derail, certain posters take any criticism of him personally and respond accordingly. The bottom post specifically should be removed as it breaks board policies:

HF policies:

1) Flaming: Critique the opinion, not the person. Personal attacks against members are not permitted. Report flaming, do not respond to it. Counter-flaming is also prohibited.

2) Trolling: Do not make posts that could be interpreted as though they were made to cause an argument or provoke others. Making generalizations about other posters is a common form of trolling. Posting questionable content on team boards, particularly those of rivals, is likely to be seen as trolling.

I still can’t figure out how anyone could dislike Timmins.

i think it's just a bit of bias against the guy + him being more "offensively inclined" and not producing much T

for me, I don't dislike or like him, he does his job as a bottom pairer and even transformed his game to be a bit more 2 way by adding pk duties to his arsenel. He and Benoit are around the same for me.

in the past, he would take a ton of stupid penalties and make stupid mistakes in the zone, he has cut that down but I think people are going to need a bigger sample size before they start opening up to him

From A pesonality standpoint:

Great…

WN - taking the subway is completely based
NG - gotta love “backcheck, forecheck, paycheck”
MD - he has a great sense of humour

Not so great…

MM - worst. interviews. evar.
JT - would be worst interviews if it wasn’t for MM
JMc- why so serious, bro?

Strictly on ice:

Great…

JMc - 111% effort every shift
CT - 111% effort every shift
NR - controversial pick but I love his work rate even if he does dolt out

Not so great…

PH - we already have Kampf and Dewar to do f-all
CD - we already have Holmberg and Kampf to do f-all
DK - unless you’re a little slow, you know where this is going

Since it's being kicked around a little -- there are no players on this team I hate or despise, both on or off the ice. This is really only my favorite and least favorites, given the situations presented. Since I don't know them personally and have never been in a locker room with them, I can't comment or grade their character in a closed door, team situation.

Increasingly over the last little while with the lack of playoff success, the health struggles with Matthews etc. I feel like our fan base is fractured with differing views on various players.

I’m not asking for the most valuable.
Or the best contract. Just list - who are your fav and least fav - 3 players. Please share your “why” for each.

I will post mine shortly. After the thread gets going a bit…
