If you notice though, the Arizona game was one where I didn't think he played as bad as his goals against. Only that lousy 5-hole goal from Strome (that made it 5-0) was stoppable in that game. Part of the reason his GAA is so high is because of the team being lousy in those games and him having to face a lot of shots, but even Cory has a GAA that isn't very great, for how high his save percentage is. Even if the team played better, Kinkaid might still have a GAA of 3 with that save percentage below 90%This is fair and I think it just outlines our differing approaches - I'm hard on Cory and Severson because they are EXCELLENT players who sometimes don't play excellent hockey. I'm not hard on secondary scrubs who have neither the talent nor ability to match the top tier guys - I just simply don't see a point in ripping them. Less is expected of them, so when you get less, well..... Looking at Kinky's list above, its like: He held us in games during some really bad stretches with some spectacular saves (better than your average backup) and faced some tough shots. And he let a few klunkers in. He's a backup. Cory gave up a couple of bad rebounds during a period where we are (rightfully) lauding him as absolutely stellar.
You're normally one of the smartest and most interesting posters here, but this take is just stupid. If all you have is 'his GAA is terrible'!!! then clearly you just aren't thinking when you typed this - because we all know how 5 goals can go in when you have a dumpster fire in front of you- As was the case in Chicago and Arizona and to some degree in the other games Kincaid played.
And I just don't agree with you on the Chicago game. I'll need to dig it up, but I clearly remember 2 of the 4 goals in the 1st period being at least kind of stoppable. In fact, many people here were calling for us to pull Kinkaid and put Cory in, since we still had a chance to win. We wound up coming back and he wound up tightening up. There was a very questionable backhander that I remember off the top of my head. It just totally eluded his glove. Perhaps you think he was screened on this one, but I don't really think he was. Same goes for at least one of those goals against Detroit.
You know what? Maybe he was screened, but if something like that is screening him, I think that he's just not doing a good enough job.
