This is fair and I think it just outlines our differing approaches - I'm hard on Cory and Severson because they are EXCELLENT players who sometimes don't play excellent hockey. I'm not hard on secondary scrubs who have neither the talent nor ability to match the top tier guys - I just simply don't see a point in ripping them. Less is expected of them, so when you get less, well..... Looking at Kinky's list above, its like: He held us in games during some really bad stretches with some spectacular saves (better than your average backup) and faced some tough shots. And he let a few klunkers in. He's a backup. Cory gave up a couple of bad rebounds during a period where we are (rightfully) lauding him as absolutely stellar.

You're normally one of the smartest and most interesting posters here, but this take is just stupid. If all you have is 'his GAA is terrible'!!! then clearly you just aren't thinking when you typed this - because we all know how 5 goals can go in when you have a dumpster fire in front of you- As was the case in Chicago and Arizona and to some degree in the other games Kincaid played.
If you notice though, the Arizona game was one where I didn't think he played as bad as his goals against. Only that lousy 5-hole goal from Strome (that made it 5-0) was stoppable in that game. Part of the reason his GAA is so high is because of the team being lousy in those games and him having to face a lot of shots, but even Cory has a GAA that isn't very great, for how high his save percentage is. Even if the team played better, Kinkaid might still have a GAA of 3 with that save percentage below 90%

And I just don't agree with you on the Chicago game. I'll need to dig it up, but I clearly remember 2 of the 4 goals in the 1st period being at least kind of stoppable. In fact, many people here were calling for us to pull Kinkaid and put Cory in, since we still had a chance to win. We wound up coming back and he wound up tightening up. There was a very questionable backhander that I remember off the top of my head. It just totally eluded his glove. Perhaps you think he was screened on this one, but I don't really think he was. Same goes for at least one of those goals against Detroit.

You know what? Maybe he was screened, but if something like that is screening him, I think that he's just not doing a good enough job.

Because goalie stats suck. They are by far the most egregiously overused piles of bunk on any board.

And you have two ex-goalies debating quality of goalie play.
How else are we supposed to measure how they play?

I'm counting these stoppable goals because they're usually congruent with the lousy numbers. Not necessarily over a short sample size, like Cory's game in Winnipeg earlier this year. I counted one poor goal on 5 allowed that game. But he also allowed 2 poor goals on 3 allowed against Edmonton, in the game before. These things even out.

Hopefully they realize this is a tremendous oppurtunity to keep banking points
If we can't beat the Sabres, good god help us.

Because I'll tell you what, there ain't gonna be another team as bad as them that we'll face again this year, aside from when we play them again, since we should have one more game against them after this.

We don't have anymore against Arizona, we don't have anymore against Edmonton (THANK GOD!). So unless some team that's just whatever right now (like the Flyers) really has a death march at the end of the season, this is probably the worst team we're gonna play for the remainder of the year. We're finished with Vancouver, we're finished with Colorado. We got one more against Ottawa, who are pretty bad, especially right now. We got one more against that joke of a team (having a very, very solid month right now, might be good enough to get them into the playoffs) from Sunrise, which guess who won't be in attendance that night?

So, these are points you gotta get.

this could be one of those games where we dont start playing till halfway through the third period. I just want two points, its OK if they get one, they're not going anywhere this year

@MadDog172430 I can’t believe you missed Josefsons perfect meme for this GDT

They don't even out though. The stats are too responsive because goals are low probability events and shots aren't qualified. We'll save the debate for another time - but Kincaid had an awful lot of bad luck to get him up to 5 goals in Chicago, for example - and Hank and Cory both had 5-hole goofs that just rode on their edges wide of the post but will show up nowhere.

I'd like to quit my job and just design a new system of goalie statistics. :)

Bryce has been letting the sabres have it in the pregame, it's kinda funny.

Everything he said is spot on but pretty uncharitable all the same.

Lol Zajac is still in the top 6. This coaching staff will never learn.

And no doubt he'll be taking up a spot on the first PP unit.

and of course deb can't help but to jinx us .. she just needs to mentions injuries to upcoming opponents and then throw in there that we've been lucky with minor injuries and healthy.. its over, now well loose half the army tonight
