If Oilers lose this game it will be one of the most embarassing loses in recent memory. We have to go like 8-1 to sniff the playoffs.

Hopefully Eberle decides to show up tonight

Just wondering when certain fans around here started to refer to the team as Coilers?

Next, they'll be calling them Greasers.

Starting to get like CP boards around here.

Disgusting.

No, just no. Atleast these posters have a molecule of rationality and reasonability. Once you enter CP you enter a new realm of homerism and ignorance

pretty sad. yet another year where the best I can hope for to finish the season is for the oilers at least beat the flames.

Oh well, at least people got to enjoy 3 or 4 days of playoff fever before the teams that are actually good gave them the cure.

come on oilers, play hard tonight

Perhaps it's the way the players' names kind of 'coil' around the Stanley Cup when you win it 5 times in 7 years.

Such good sports down in Calgary. Hope we lay another savage thrashing on them tonight. Let CP spend pages whining about Yak pointing at Smyth for absolutely torching his opponent on the face off and gifting Yak the empty netter. "Such a cocky ______, hope somebody kills him, blah cry blah cry." Sissies.

If tonight against calgary, goes anything like the road trip, i have a very hard time believing this team has improved at all since the last few seasons.

We now sit 7 points out of last place... thats ground we would very easily make up with another 40 games to go. I want to believe so badly that this team is improving, but this half season is really hard to judge.

Either way, at this point, i just want nuge and ebs to get going again, and for the rest of the team to get some momentum going into next season.

Oh and wtf is with khabbi starting? There has been 3 days between games and we don't play again until tuesday... you don't go to your backup after the team scores 1 goal in a pathetic loss.

This season is a write off, its time to run with duby and give him the confidence of knowing he's our number one... not flip flopping between him and khabbi.

This organization is so frustrating sometimes...

Injury report: The Flames are without forwards Brian McGrattan (shoulder) and Matt Stajan (upper body). … Edmonton will be without forward Ales Hemsky, who's taking a week off to see if his broken foot will heal

I figure that happened in the last Detroit game when he blocked a shot. He sat out 1 game so he tried to tough it out for 12 games on a broken foot when the team still had a chance.

Yet some say.

He isn't a team player.
Is a me first type.
Shows no leadership.
Has no competitive drive.

One poster even said he "pulled the pin" on his teammates. Any "I was wrongs" coming. I expect crickets.

that's more games that would toast Justin Schultz (admitted exhaust), Ryan Smyth (dead already) and whoever else is getting roasted. if this "high flying team" can't make a run in a shortened season, that looks bad on them.

if any team gives this team any pressure through speed or physicality, they collapse into scared, reactive perimeter hockey (sloppy to boot).

the roster (youth is fine) and execution has to improve before we see big steps.

I can visualize the first ten minutes already, Hall and co try to dipsy doodle through the middle because they beat them up last game and the Flames go up 2-0 again

I agree with this. A lot of people seem to think they can just extrapolate the data and thats what would happen here. This team started what 8-2 last year? and ended up finishing 29th in the league.

realistically speaking this team starts out good then as other teams get in the groove they start to loose, this season is no different. The fact that its only 48 games hides the fact that this is a bottom feeder for the 4th straight season...

Hah... oh man. Glencross is out with the flu and Tanguay is out for the remainder of the season with an MCL sprain. If we lose tonight... ka-blamo.

All this talk about "Coilers" and "Calgary Puck". I stumbled upon this little gem on CP posted by a beaten down Flames fan. A good read after what we have gone through these last several years. LOL.

Saw this posted on Oilfans today. A little inflammatory (of course) but the underlying message is pretty bang on:

Open Letter To Calgary Flames Fans…

Dear Flames Fan,

I write to you from the Future, well actually from Edmonton, but from your perspective it will be the Future. You see a long time ago, 2007 to be precise, I was you. Ok, not YOU (because I’m not a Godless Flames Fan), but you catch my drift.

You see, my team had done reasonably well for a few years at the time and made a Playoff run all the way to Game 7 of the Cup Final the year before (Unlike your Flames franchise, my Oilers weren’t given nearly a Decade to try and recapture the magic). In 2007 the Face of the Franchise, a man who bled Oilers Blue, was dealt because he was a pending UFA. Sound familiar? It should.

I was gutted, as you likely are. I told myself lies, like you likely are. I tried to make justifications, as you likely are. Hell, I told myself that Ryan Smyth would probably re-sign in the summer as a UFA and he and Kevin Lowe would laugh about it over beers.
I didn’t happen.

It took time but I allowed myself to get excited about the Oilers again. I know it doesn’t seem like you ever will, but one day soon you will get very excited about the Flames.

DON’T.

I speak from experience here, you have nothing to get excited about and everything you THINK you do have will only serve to crush your hopes. Every game for the next few years will be horrible. You know you will lose, and worse, if you DO win you know it won’t matter.

In fact, winning will one day be something you WON’T want to happen. Try wrapping your head around that. And losing will be so normal to you and so critical to your happiness that you will have to one day (a long time from now) learn how to cheer for a win again.

It’s a pretty bleak picture, my friend.

By now you –God forsaken Flames fan– have most likely told yourself, “Not me, man. That won’t happen to me. My Flames are not rebuilding, we’re re-tooling.”

Guess what. That’s what the Oilers were doing after 2007.

“No, the Flames have 3 1st round draft picks.”

So did the Oilers in 2007.

Heed my warning or not, but at least listen to this once so you have no one to blame but yourself later: Your team has no identity, no stars, and no prospects of note. They are destined for failure by the heaping spoonful and no matter how many times you put your faith in Sven Baertschi he’s still just a crappy 2nd line AHL forward.

Take that from someone who once believed in Andrew Cogliano. Someone who knows that Robert Nilsson was the most talented Oiler in practice. Someone who could tell you that Patrick O’Sullivan once scored 47 goals in the AHL.

Take it from someone who knew for a fact that Rob Schremp was going to run the Oilers Power Play.

This isn’t High School. I’m not writing you this letter to tell you it will get better. It isn’t. It’s going to get so much worse.

You don’t even know, but I do.

Just remember this. As an Oilers fan I’ve been hearing your mocking cries for more than 6 years while I suffered through this very same thing myself, and I remember each and every barb you threw at me.

There is no pity coming from me.

The only difference between what you did and what I will be doing is that I KNOW how much it hurts to go through this and I will enjoy rubbing your ugly faces in the misery and hopelessness that waits for you as you try to cheer for your crappy team.

You don’t have a hope in hell of coming out of this gracefully.

Your team is full of nobodies, your farm club is full of never will bes, and the picks who haven’t even been made yet will be wasted on the Mark Jankowskis of the world.

Give up now or have reality destroy whats left of your miserable soul one wretched game at a time.

Yours Truly,

Oilers Fan

Hilarious!
