Some fan already suggested it'd be the ultimate nut-drag if he got in the ring and said "Sorry, I'm not used to seeing fans on the hard cam side."

I'm guessing nothing is said about AEW at all. I think WWE is kinda at the "You're winning, don't take cheap shots because it makes you look inferior" stage with AEW.

Tony missed that memo when he went on his Twitter Tantrum a couple months ago, and it honestly made him look like shit.
Something like that is probably fine. "Oh wow, they put people over there?"

Nothing at all is the right move. They love to boast about how AEW isn't competition, here's a chance for them to truly act like they aren't competition.

It's weird. They are but they aren't.

Like, they clearly treated them as competition on the Tuesday head to head. But I think they're also not really afraid of them doing significant damage to their business.

It's almost like, I don't think they consider them a threat in the ratings, but they do consider them a threat to take away talent.

I am almost positive there are legal things stopping Punk from openly shitting on AEW. Most you will get is like a wink wink kinda thing but I doubt he takes anything even resembling a shot at AEW.

Yeah I think both sides are probably best off just shutting up about each other. Tony probably has a case on the 2nd blow up, Punk probably has a case on the first.

I know we won't / can't see it, but I would love to see him bring the bag with the belt out and do the "Real World Champ" thing like Flair did way back when
I totally remember the day when we saw Heenan holding that belt for the first time. Still scraping my jaw off the floor.

Dislike. That's too direct. I prefer the "act like they don't exist" policy.

I agree with all of this. For a long stretch, AEW was drawing extremely well and WWE was nose diving hard. As much as HHH or Vince would say that AEW wasn't competition, the ratings were mostly pretty even week to week so clearly there's a comparison to be made. AEW had the hot stories and headlines, and WWE just trotted out the same garbage show night after night. All WWE had to do was tread water, let Tony shoot himself in the foot a few times, and then eventually water would find it's level.

I have never been a HHH fan, at all. Can't stand him actually. I went from a die hard Punk fan the last 20ish years to really feeling duped by him in the last 12 months. It pains me to say it, but I have no problem admitting that as I sit here in my chair today, WWE is more interesting to me than AEW. Wrestling is a cruel and fickle business, so this is all due to shift again come January.

I think they actually could do it... But why would they?

Not only does it legitimize your competition, it actually elevates them as if people should seriously consider Punk the "Real World Champ" over Reigns or Rollins because he never lost the competition's belt.

Triple H the booker is miles ahead of Triple H the wrestler/backstage politician.

In contrast, oddly enough, CM Punk the wrestler is miles ahead of CM Punk the person. He's a massive douchebag of a person.

Yeah I suppose it would legitimize the competition, which is very rare for WWE, who until recently treated any federation that they didn't own like a curse word that can't be uttered on TV. maybe it would make some sense if they were trying to get him over as an asshole heel, but based on the reception he got I don't see that happening

Can't really argue reception in Chicago haha. I don't anticipate the crowd hating on him outside a few boo birds, but Chicago is the worst market to gauge a general reaction for Punk.

I think generally, with Vince gone WWE isn't treating competition as taboo to talk about, but they also aren't putting it over.

Shit, Cole had three different references at SS alone. Name dropped Jericho and Edge, and talked about Cody having a history of "Doing big things in Chicago." That doesn't happen under Vince. I'm honestly kinda surprised they mentioned it that openly even without Vince.

Yeah, it is quite a turnaround, I always enjoyed when Gorilla or Vince would refer to a guy like Rick Martel as a youngster with a lot of potential when he had been wrestling for years and years elsewhere and even previously for the WWWF

Heyman tells a story of Vince asking why he was directing Cole and Tazz to refer to young superstars as "Future Hall of Famers". Long story short Heyman supposedly told Vince it was to condition the audience to think "Wow, I'm getting to see a future hall of famer coming up", and Vince called it "Clever marketing".

... Which I find hilarious considering some of the wet fart hall of fame inductions they've done.

By mostly even, did you mean they stayed the same week to week, or they were both even in numbers for ratings?

Because one is mostly true, and the other is 100% wrong.

I guess I'll have to revert to my old mode and avoid spoilers while waiting for the west coast feed. I'm a little skeptical about bringing in Punk but I'm definitely way more motivated to watch tonight now.

Punk will always be a wildcard because he's clearly a prick, but WWE is probably a better fit. Ironically enough, the top-down style better suits him as much as he hated it back in the day. I think he went into AEW thinking he'd be some sort of modern-day Undertaker in terms of locker room leadership and got pissy no one saw him that way and a good chunk of the roster were happy to do their own thing. That's not to excuse Khan's inaction, the Bucks and others being pricks too, or the young guys there who think they know everything already (IIRC one of Punk's first bit of incredulity were wrestlers who laughed off and shrugged at criticisms Jim Ross had of their style). Anyways, there will probably be BS backstage because it's Punk, but at least there's a boss there and a structure that hopefully stops the BS rock from rolling too far down the hill before it takes people out.
