There's a couple reasons this seems to have worked with Cody where it didn't with Cena and Roman. (By didn't work I mean Cena had heavy resistance, but also made a shit ton of money... By all accounts he was a success overall)

1. AEW seems to have removed a lot of the "Counter audience" from WWE. The people who wanted to rage against the WWE machine now have something else to watch, so they're not really present and vocal anymore.

2. Cena and Roman were perceived as "Golden Boys" who were just handed everything immediately. Cody's story is pretty well known in that WWE saddled him with a shit gimmick and put a ceiling on him to the point that he had to leave and reinvent himself. It's a little harder not to respect his ascent compared to a guy like Cena or Roman.

I agree with Roman but not on Cena. I don't think he was ever perceived that way by the audience. With Cena, once he went to his super-hero character and dropped a lot of his Dr. gimmick it was fine for a couple years, but like most wrestlers who don't evolve it just got really stale and the audience. If there is one real knock on Cena is his character is exactly the same today that it was 15+ years ago. Even other greats like Rock and Austin had to tweak their character over time.

Shotzi should never be given a mic again. Ever.

I don't know how she is in the ring and that's about the only thing holding me back from saying release her, because that promo was f***ing awful. Less than two minutes of mic time and absolutely character killing.

She was Vickie Guerrero levels of shrill and annoying... As a babyface.

She came off much better later in the back stage segment with Charlotte.

I can't do it, man.

You put those four out there for the opening segment when you're still getting carryover audience. If I'm a non-fan or a lapsed fan, as soon as she started her goofy ass shrill laughing, I'm saying "What the f*** is this shit?" and turning the channel out of annoyance. I wanted to do that as a fan. I can't imagine how it looks to a non-fan.

there was no sound on SN360 (bell fibe TV) for the most important segment of the night T_T
The audio problem must have been directly from Sportsnet360 as I'm with Telus and that segment didn't have sound for me either. The good news is that they fixed it for the replay today so if you want to catch that segment SN360 is replaying the show again on Sunday at 3 pm Eastern.

Saw the segment on Twitter. I think it was more than just SN360, looking at what people were saying. There were issues in the UK.

She often nearly breaks her own neck, she's basically a crash test dummy

What I meant to say was that the audio issue must have come " directly from Sportsnet360 or the WWE " since we both had it and are on different cable systems. Anyway - it was a good segment so glad that we both could finally see it. :thumbu:

Cool to see Punk return. I think we'll see Punk/Rollins loading. I thought his AEW debut was louder and better but of course the situation is different.

Also cool to see the Viper back. I would have marked the hell out had Orton, when his music hit, appeared behing Rhea Ripley and lay her out with the R.K.O. right in front of Judgment Day. Just to see the horror in Dom's eyes, would have been worth it.

If the McIntyre thing isn't a work, I don't buy Punk being the issue. Pretty sure not long after Rollins made his "Cancer" comments, Drew came out and said he wouldn't have a problem with Punk coming back.

If anything, I can see him possibly being pissed if he was slotted for Rollins at WM, and with Punk coming back he figures that pushes him out of the spot.

Where is Raw tonight? I feel like they always go to Milwaukee after Chicago.

I have to assume they open with Punk. Everybody probably expects lots of subtle and maybe not-so-subtle digs at AEW, but I'm hoping they take the high road. It would be an even bigger F-U from HHH/Punk if there's an in ring segment with a bunch of guys (Cody and Punk included) and Punk's first words are to Cody. A simple, "Hey...I get it." Then they move on with the show.

I just picture Cody discussing the victory on Saturday, Punk puts his arm out to stop him, pauses, looks off at the crowd with that classic smirk, then delivers the I get it line and shakes Cody's hand.

To me, that says it all. It sends the message that Punk and HHH have patched things up, it acknowledges that Punk was wrong in trashing WWE during his AEW promos, and it's also a rare instance of Punk taking the high road and being above the bullshit so to speak.

I don't expect it, but I think that's the right move.

Some fan already suggested it'd be the ultimate nut-drag if he got in the ring and said "Sorry, I'm not used to seeing fans on the hard cam side."

I'm guessing nothing is said about AEW at all. I think WWE is kinda at the "You're winning, don't take cheap shots because it makes you look inferior" stage with AEW.

Tony missed that memo when he went on his Twitter Tantrum a couple months ago, and it honestly made him look like shit.
