It’s not nearly as crazy as people are making it seem but I suspect most aren’t interested in actually learning why the Caps might take this gamble (and yes, it’s certainly a gamble even looking at it optimistically) and would rather just scream about PLD’s contract as if they are the ones breaking the news that it is expensive.
100% agreed. It's a gamble. But our depth at C is Strome, McMike, Hendrix... with nothing in the prospect depths (mostly all wingers). He auto becomes the #2 while bumping everyone else down.

The get out of your bad contracts day to be remembered. Need to get this done before capfriendly goes down.

I actually think, this is not bad for WSH.
Has anybody seen their cap structure on capfriendly?
They are effing old. And so many of these contracts will run out soon.

Trading away their old goal tender is a good thing.
They are gonna be a young, rebuilding team very soon.

That PLD contract will never hurt them, because of their cap structure. Go to capfriendly, as long as you still can.
Yes, old and declining and bring in a cancer. that's not typically how teams turn it around. They tend to want to dump contracts for picks or prospects that will have a little horizon. PLD is not the answer and I'm so glad to see him back in the Metro.

Dubois and Ovy sounds like a physically huge duo, though. I guess the caps feel he will play better there? Seems to me like they gave a gift to LA, though all that stuff they gave for what is basically Kuemper now is horrendous.

It's a win for the Kings but it stills looks terrible. In effect, they traded Vilardi, Iafallo, Kupari, and a 1st for Kuemper.

How is Blake still employed?

Also, poor Caps. It's gonna be a long mess after Ovechkin retires
it was a 2nd wasn't it? But still pretty bad optics. how Blake has a job is beyond me,

Last time we traded Kuemper it was for Tobias Rieder lol.

It would be better for the years they're trying to get the most out of Ovie. Just a hunch.

Holy hell. Teams will never learn to just cut your losses and buy a dude out or trade him with something attached to it.

Both of these teams somehow decided to trade for another horrific contract and be in the exact same position.

A lot of bad takes here. I'm going to wager that at least 95% of Kings fans are fine with this trade ignoring the assets squandered to get PLD in the first place. I honestly hope PLD figures it out with the capitals but I won't be holding my breath. If Kuemper contributes at all it will be a win for the Kings. People crapping on his play forget that the Kings made the playoffs last year with Cam Talbot and Dave Rittich/Phoenix Copley as their goalies. What's the worst that can happen?

If PLD doesn't work out in Washington they can just say he only had 1 year left on his deal. Who else would know? The league proved with the dadonov thing that they don't.

Is it just me or is it very odd that so many trades are happening while the finals are also still happening?

You do realize it is June 19th already and the next game isn't until the 21st right? Very small window before UFA and draft happens. Maybe teams wait if the Cup is over by the 10th or something, but not when there is less than 2 weeks to do stuff before the new seasons contracts, etc, start. Trading during the Finals being an issue is really a fan made up thing.

You also have to remember the Kings had Kuemper and basically gave him away for free to sign Cal Petersen whom they had to pay to get of last year.
So its Vilardi, Iafallo, Kupari, Durzi, Walker, Grans, 2nd round pick, paying salary retention to Columbus for Provorov all just to end up with a guy they gave away for nothing in his prime in Kuemper.
It is insane Rob Blake still has a job.

You got the timeline wrong. That was a long time before Petersen's big contract. At the time they moved Kuemper to get Jack Campbell up in the NHL. Campbell and Petersen were splitting time in the AHL. Kuemper Trade gave the backup spot to Campbell and the AHL starting spot to Petersen but it was unrelated to a contract as Petersen was about to start the second year of his ELC.
