Confirmed Signing with Link: [WSH] F Aliaksei Protas signs extension with the Capitals (5 years, $3.375M AAV)

Yeah, I expect the offensive numbers to cool off a bit, but if he “regresses” to being a 50 point forward that can play on any line and forechecks at a high level and is defensively responsible I think the contract is still a steal.

The Caps did a promo earlier this year where they had players hand deliver tickets to STH who have had tix for all 50 years.

For a second I thought there was a joint promotion with the Commanders players… nope, just Protas & McIlrath

Not only is it all at even strength but he’s a damn giant that can move.

What's even more amazing is he had done this with pretty much zero pp time. They don't even have him on the 2nd pp unit.
I don’t understand how he’s not an option there. You’d think even just his size would be useful diversification, not to mention his skill

Really unique player - this deal was great for the Caps the moment the ink dried and it'll still be great when Protas' shooting % eventually and inevitably cools down. He’s just a force at 5v5 with his playmaking, IQ and enormous reach and of course on the PK.

Some of that shooting % regression can eventually be balanced out over time by some PP usage. It’s hard to imagine in the long run that they don’t find a way to leverage his size and skill on one of the PP units.

Seems like his younger brother may be an even better offensive prospect at the same point in their careers - having two of these dudes in the line-up eventually is going to be something.

Carbery said in a recent interview that Protas doesn’t get PP time but he’s kind of making it impossible to not give him some going forward. I expect him to be on PP2 soon.
