I don’t have a problem with this deal. He has never had major injuries and many of the other all time greats were productive at least until 38. There would have definitely been a team that would have signed him to 3 years at 11 million a year for sure. Ovi is a credit to the NHL and having him until 40 is great for the league.

I am probably in the minority but not sure even Ovi at 35 is worth 5 more years at $9.5M per. I was expecting more like 3 years.

5 years wow, great to see! Still so crazy to think where Ovi might be without covid and lockouts. He’s lost out on a potential 167 games from 2005, 2013, 2020, and 2021. At his current career pace, that could be an additional 101 goals, which would put him at 831 currently, just 63 away from Gretzky… Going to be so amazing if he can break the record in the next 5 seasons.

Tells you where Ovie's mind is at!

It'll be real interesting to see how this ends up. Appreciate the Caps commitment to the current team, even if it likely doesn't end well.

Paid him for the Cup. Hefty deal for a 36 year old, but he gets to stay there with his Cup buddies. Maybe break a record, kill some time, but the winning days are done. Caps seem cool with it though, so, more power to them.

Exactly my thinking. This salary is just too high. I was hoping a bit smaller number.

Let's hope he breaks Gretzky's record. That would be legendary!!!

Maybe not on the ice, but in revenue absolutely

Hes done everything Washington ever could have expected, will forever be their greatest player and earned nearly whatever he wants going forward

I think this means that Ovi will probably outlast Crosby, Malkin and Backstrom in the NHL. I thought Ovi would take 4 years so his deal would expire right when Backstrom's did, guess I was wrong. Good for him though.
