With how much studios spent on terribly written terribly acted movies that went on to bomb at the box office in 2023, if anything writers and actors should be getting paid less for their garbage work.

Zero sympathy for them at this point with how many of my favorite franchises they have absolutely butchered in the past couple years.
If you feel this way, I don't see why you wouldn't have just as negative feelings towards the studios as well.

If anything, the stuios are much more responsible for "butchering" franchises than actors are.

An actor is working to adhere to the vision the director wants. They're portraying what's written in the script for them.

You don't think that has more to do with studio meddling and risk aversion than anything?

There's plenty of great writers out there to provide scripts for their blockbusters. But studios want Avengers 37, and they want to try a new Batman every 5 years. They want writers that will do what their told, that will make safe/inoffensive movies that appeal to as many people as possible.

Using AI isn't going to make movies more interesting. It will just allow studios to remove whatever personality writers have managed to sneak into their scripts without the suits noticing.

Oh don't get me wrong I absolutely do.

The studios bear most of the responsibility for the awful state of television and film, but I don't think being cheap and shortchanging writers/actors is the reason for that.

Most big shows/ big movies are garbage anyways right now. Hollywood needs a reset and it opens the door for people to go enjoy older films/shows from before the big Woke agenda took over in the last 5-8 years.

Normally I stay out of this stuff, but this is one of the dumbest and laziest things I've read in this thread. There are plenty of well written shows and movies out there if you bother to look for them rather than expecting them to be spoonfed to you. And "woke agenda" is the laziest f***ing criticism of anything lately. Movie wasn't targeted for me = woke. Movie even slightly addresses social issues (which movies/shows have been doing forever) = woke. Didn't understand the movie = woke. Didn't like the movie = woke. The "woke agenda is ruining everything" crowd really needs to come up with some new material. It's beyond stale at this point.

Can't help but notice that when he says it started lines up with "gamergate" becoming a thing.

Even just having a part go to a woman or a black actor gets the "woke agenda" weirdos out.

It’s not lazy, it’s just reality at this point. The writing for scripts has gotten way worse in the last 5-8 years. Sure movies have had social issues addressed in the past but now it’s the main focus of a movie and the script is secondary. You can get butt hurt over the truth but it remains the truth nonetheless. Reading your response tells me you really don’t understand the backlash against woke Hollywood and why places like Disney are losing so much money. People more and more everyday don’t want these movies/shows anymore, it’s run it’s course and time for a Hollywood reset

It is fairly easy to understand.

Gullible insecure idiots are being gaslit by people like Tucker Carlson, Ben Shapiro and others of their ilk.

That's what the "backlash" against "wokeness" is.

I’m only going by what I’ve tried to watch as new shows/movies and seeing the major loss in revenue from companies like Disney. In my opinion most these shows are terrible ( I’ve tried with many but only found a few) and I wouldn’t need someone like Tucker or Ben to point this out to me. When I compare shows from the 80s 90s 2000s up to 5-8 years ago you can see a difference with the bad writing and casting. Pandering to the vocal minority who get offended by everything has really caught up to the writers with the bad tv/movies getting released

Or maybe, just maybe, you have a hard time accepting that, now more than ever, a lot of the movies and TV shows produced are not targeted towards you.

What you call pandering, I call going after a new demographic that was not targeted before.

Quality-wise, there also was a lot of crap in the mainstream and it continues to be a lot of it. I do not see a "dip in quality" just more content in general.

There’s always been movies targeted for every age group or people would just stop watching everything at 40 years old. It’s becoming less and less. But I hear it talking to many people that the shows for the most part suck now. You may not see a dip in quality but countless people do see it more and more and that’s why more shows/movies are seeing the drop in revenue for major companies. People are tired of it

More bad shows from more bad writers, companies hiring bad actors and the whole thing is watered down with bad shows for all ages. See we didn’t need Tucker and Shapiro to figure this out

Yeah definitely. I mean 5+ years ago you could just cut cable and get a Netflix subscription. But that was such a lucrative business model that everyone started jumping into the subscription model and now you have like a dozen different services vying for your monthly subscription spending a ton of money on known IP's and expensive productions to draw you in. Surely a sustainable business model.

But no, the real reason subscriptions are dropping is because they've gone woke and darn it all we're fed up with it!

Weren't commentators like Shapiro complaining about Barbie being too "woke". That's made a billion dollars...
Yeah. It did extremely well.

So, there argument that "woke = broke" is utterly dumb. If the content is good, no matter the subject matter, it has a chance to be sucessful.

In Barbie's case, it always helps that it is a uber famous brand and that two very famous A-list actors are starring in the movie.

I thought Disney+ actually gained subscribers save in India, where they lost millions because they lost the rights to Indian Premier League cricket.

Don’t need a few guys reporting on their opinions to know about woke nonsense
Barbie kinda blows up your misguided pitch. Back to MMA for you.
I kinda chuckle when people are so scared of any messaging surrounding social justice and the like.
I remember clearly when the movie industry went kaput due to the unmitigated gall of making movies like To Kill a Mockingbird.

Half the time the people complaining about wokeness are too dense to figure out the message of some of the stuff they like. A bunch of people online just clued into what The Boys was about last year (Wait...are they making fun of us?!?!), When the stars of Trailer Park Boys publicly supported Elliot Page a bunch of "fans" said the show had gone woke. They were too dumb to realize what the show was trying to tell them all along.
