Deal!
I haven't watched Glass play but as a high pick with some offensive skills, if he has any speed at all we could use that right shot.
And as much as I like Heinola, current Jets management prefers to play a 6'7" pylon on the 3rd pair.
Who am I to argue, the Jets are in first place!

Glass for Heinola does make a fair bit of sense to me, at least after Crosby and Malkin get back. Glass is a bland but safe bottom-6 center at this point, he's definitely more suited in a 4C role but can be a passable 3C with injuries. I would expect his value would be like a 3rd or 4th, which is probably a bit above Heinola's value but not crazily so.

Something like Heinola and a 5th for Glass is what I'd expect it to look like.

Would Jon Gibson be an option to shore up the goal? I know Comrie has done good when put in, but god forbid something happen to Bucky and the Jets have a final push and playoffs with Comrie in net.

Would love to see the Jets add Trent Frederick for a playoff guy as well, he is nasty to play against, tough and skilled.

Defence wise....I have a hard time giving up on Stanley as hes big, young and tough...but is he effective or a liability in playoffs? Could we add a proven solid defensive guy to the 3-6 spot in the d-core?

Gibson is not going to want to go to Winnipeg and the Jets aren't going to try to trade for him. Keeping the goalie room happy has been a big priority for the franchise - Bucky chooses his backup, and Flaherty has been coaching since day #1. What they're doing is working, and we don't want that dynamic to be shaken with a veteran outsider.

I guarantee we pick up at least one forward and one depth defenseman. It's anyone's guess who the forward is at this point, but I'd assume the deal will happen the week of the deadline.

With that said, a Heinola deal would probably be in the off-season since Chevy won't want to mix deadline deals vs finding a suitable landing spot for Ville.

You want a back up that makes over 6 million a year?

Heinola has no future with the Jets.
Injuries and being blocked by Stanley from developmental playing time, he should be available for free when put on waivers next season.
There is potential to be a solid bottom 4 puck moving damn but he's lost a lot of development time. I hope a team gives him a proper look.

I think the Jets will deal Heinola but likely for a pick or a b/c prospect. If Jets are serious about adding at the deadline they will need to free up a roster spot.

You think they would retain 5 million?
You think he wants to come here to play 20 games a year?
I never said forsure, I wondered if he's an option as he is supposedly available.

Depends what he wants, thats the whole job of a GM, If Gibson would come here as a rental with salary retained, worth looking into. If not, move on.

A rental with two more seasons after this one?

It happens, could have him for the year and then trade him elsewhere in the off season.

But you've proven your point, Gibson likely not an option. Still think Jets need a solid 1(b) goalie for insurance and a run in the playoffs. Who knows if Chevy decides to find a goalie and if he does its usually someone no ones talking about.

I'd probably put this sort of deal on ice for the Penguins for now...at least, until they find out a little bit more about what they've picked up in Kolyachonok.
I've seen plenty of both Heinola and Kolyachonok over the years. I'm a Jets 1.0 and 2.0 fan.
I think both players are NHL caliber and either one can do well as 3rd pair LD. They're very different in style. In skating, they're at opposite ends of the spectrum. Heinola makes up for his lack of speed with his smarts and positioning. It's that intelligence that gives him a much higher ceiling. He's not physical and not quick, so most coaches won't give him the leash required for him to hit his ceiling.

I could see a Heinola+ trade to Buffalo for Byram, if Byram doesn't want to sign an extension there. Pittsburgh probably, from what I'm seeing, doesn't have the players to make a good enough hockey trade for Winnipeg.

The + on top of Heinola to get Byram will be far more valuable than Heinola is.

It would be more like Perfetti and Heinola for Byram.
