He’ll leave next summer but nothing wrong with taking your shot this season if you’re Winnipeg. I would assume the trade offers just weren’t worth it…you can really view it as a rental - but a rental who you know in terms of capabilities, usage and chemistry. I’m sure Copp will be an important part of the forward group once again this year.

Yup, that's as much as we could have given him if we wanted to run 13F, 7D, 2G without offloading Beaulieu. Lucking into Dillon, then Schmidt, really put the clamps on Pionk & Copp's negotiations. I hope we manage to keep Copper afterwards, but we are absolutely going for it this year, and we should have the talent to replace him after.

I don’t believe it’s so much about leaving and going to the states as it is about getting paid at some point regardless of where it is. I’m sure he has preferences though.

It's smart for Copp to go to FA. If he can replicate what he did last year, he's looking at Hyman-Coleman money on a long-term deal. And that's the type of money he probably didn't think he would ever get a couple years ago.
