He can do whatever he wants or feels is necesary. If this team does not win at least 1 round next season the lot of them should be removed, Shanahan on down.

If they win 1 round, a further revie wis required to look at where we are going next. if that looks good, continue on. If that does not look good, c-ya later.

The pandemic happened. You can’t predict it, but you can react to it. Obviously the original plan is now an issue to the viability of the team.

If you are driving down the road and it floods, that’s not your fault. If you keep driving into it, your fault.

Reason and logic?

what is this madness?

Perfect analogy.

are you trying to say that the "global impact" was only felt by leafs and no one else in the league? its amazing the lengths dubas fans will go to defend him

It really is incredible.

Like I was just telling another poster, the mental gymnastics that they spew to try to defend him is hilarious.

They're the kinds of fans who if the Leafs miss the playoffs next season will come out and say "Hey!! At least we didn't get eliminated in the 1st round, we're making progress" Lol.

None of their arguments make ANY sense.

Not an excuse for the situation the Toronto Maple Leafs are in. Sorry.

Also, management came out during media availability and basically said they were staying the course.

It is not an excuse. It's reality for all 31 NHL teams and basic common sense.

But if you want to base your expectations on a fantasy, then remain perpetually disappointed.

Didn't say that either.

We weren't discussing the playoffs. We were discussing the regular season.

Multiple reasons, but the most obvious is that you can't just bring in somebody else's GM to your own team whenever you like. We already have a good GM. The better question is how firing him would help the team.
Ya.
Wonder Boy is great.
Check his record.
Pfff.
Wow.
Try harder.
Brutal take.

Literally everything is a gamble. You want to tell someone to never drive a car because there is a risk of them dying? You want to tell a small business owner to never take out loans to grow their business because there is a chance it never works out? Both are significantly more likely of happening than that pandemic, yet people do it all the time. And you know what, a lot of small businesses lost everything even though there were some who were doing quite well before the pandemic. That is the nature of life, even if you are ridiculously privileged.

If a GM in 2018 went into negotiations with anyone and said "I know the cap is going up and everyone else pays their players according but I won't because there may be this freak occurrence that causes it to not go up so I won't pay you like everyone else", those agents would laugh in your face. Your ass would probably be fired too because you would not have been able to keep anyone.

The nhl is a results oriented business.

You don't get brownie points for trying hard.

Dubas banked on the cap going up and extremely overpaid our rfas.

He was wrong and should pay the price. He has already wasted 3 seasons of the most promising years I have witnessed as a fan. How many more do you want him to throw away?
