For Finland:

Based on play on the ice:

2013 team. Our 2017 team was equally bad result-wise but I'd wager they'd beat the crap out of that terribly coached mess of a hockey team we had in 2013.

On paper:

Pretty much any lineup from 2006 to 2013 is a good candidate. Pick your poison.
I bolded those.

I remember before going into that tournament that team had many good prospects.

This Finnish 2013 team had:

G:

Korpisalo

D:

Ristolainen
Määttä
Lindbohm
Pokka

F:

Barkov
Teräväinen
Ma. Granlund
Armia
Salomäki
Lehkonen
Hännikäinen

So it's not bad at all. At the time that was a great core for Finland. Barkov was injured early and obviously the tournament for Finland was a catastrophe. On paper it was good/great and Finland has a couple of good NHL'ers to show for now from that tournament.

Sorry, I meant 2006-2013 exclusive. Should have clarified.

You're right. We had a strong lineup in 2013, the best we had had for years at the time. By far the worst team performance wise relative to the expectations.

2003 Swedish team was pretty bad. Saved in relegation round, ended up 8 out of 10 in group play. The most successful players from that squad have been Tobias Enström and Alexander Steen, followed by Robert Nilsson and Fredrik Sjöström.

2012 USA no question and that’s really crazy because look at the roster

John Gibson
Jacob Trouba
Charlie Coyle
Jt miller
Jason Zucker
Nick Bjugstad
Austin Watson
Emerson Etem
Brandon saad
Jon Merril

I think every single player on the team at least got an NHL game.

What's worse is that Johnny Gaudreau was one of the last cuts while already lighting it up at BC.

2013.

I remember screaming at my TV for Steve Spott to give Rielly minutes (he was Canada's best D all tourney and played as a #6)... Literally the only D creating chances and playing defence. Big time f*** up by Spotter. He treated Morgan Rielly like garbage and treated Ryan Murphy (awful player) like a superstar, playing him #1 D. Add to that they had 52p in 62gp rookie season RNH and couldn't even medal, what an embarrassing coaching job.

edit: I remember in the third period of an elimination game once we were down 4-0, Spott gave Rielly some minutes. First he sets up a goal then scores one and does a dirty celly. After he scored to bring Canada within 1, Spott went back to benching him. I would argue he was better than RNH at the tourney. The two top guys imo were Scheifele and Rielly.

I think we have to put a qualifier on this. This is clearly the worst US team in the last few years, but not tournament history. Lots of 1 and 2 win teams back in the old 7 game round robin of the 80's and early 90's. This lineup would likely have destroyed some of those earlier teams, and that includes some of the ones that had decent records. USA Hockey has come so far in the last 20 years. You guys should be proud.

Yeah true but that was an entirely different era in USA hockey.

I don't think that there is any doubt that Steve Spott is one of the worst coaches we've ever had coach our national junior team, but is 2013 really our worst ever team? Of course it isn't; maybe one of the most disappointing, but the 1992 team (6th place finish) was a worse team AND probably more disappointing, while the 1998 team was far and away the worse team we've iced since we started our national junior program in 1982. I mean, f***, we lost to Kazakhstan.

Not old enough for those years, 2013 was the most frustrating year I've ever seen. The team wasn't that bad, but the coaching decisions were absolutely horrendous.

Now that Denmark are going on 5 consecutive WJCs.

Id say this years team is one of the worst they have had on paper.
Luckily they survived relegation.

1998 for Canada was quite an embarrassment. As for other countries I'm not as familiar with their history..I'm just taking a guess but I would imagine Russia 2018 has to have been their worst team in well over 20 years.

The 1998 Kazak team that beat Canada had Nik Antropov obvious powerhouse.

Has Danil Antropov indicated if he's going to play for Team Canada (dont know if he's good enough to make any of them) or play for Team Kazakhstan where he'll easily make the team for whatever competition they play in. .

They also lost in the consolation round in 1981 to West Germany, 7-6. But that was when Team Canada was actually Cornwall of the QMJHL.
Wow! That was news to me that they even had a different format back then from the straight round robin. We need Germany to split up again so we can properly avenge that loss!

Kazakhstan is in the top division next year, that might be a factor.

He has the dual citizenship but he wouldn't meet the requirement of playing for 2 years in the country

He may have the eligibility covered, but those are certainly not the numbers that will win him a spot on team Canada. I think the best thing for his career might be to get on the Kazakh team where he can be a big wheel.
I never said he would win a spot on a Canadian team, im just pointing out evidence that he meets the IIHF requirements should he be selected or given the option to play internationally for Canada.

Barkov played a full tournament in perfect health. The one who got injured was Miro Aaltonen.

Results wise or Talent?

There have been Russian teams that's worst talent wise then 2018 team, but better results.

It's pretty much an open question. If there's a team that particularly stands out in your mind as being the worst for whatever reason, then make your case.
