My first thought went to Hurricanes practice goalie/equipment manager Jorge Alves who played like 2 seconds in a game once.

If you want someone who actually played a whole game Jack Lafontaine was worse than any EBUG in his 1 NHL game.

Based on my extensive review and reading of HF Boards boards over the years, the worst NHL player in history is clearly either Erik Karlsson or Tim Stutzle.

Probably some random player from 1931 that no one here has ever heard of.

In recent history, Dalton Smith might be one of the worst players to play a game in the NHL. He has a 0,15 ppg in 500 AHL games, and 0,37 ppg in 63 ECHL games. But the Sabres brought him up for one game to be a goon and I think he played like a minute and a half in that game.

Would be useful to have some criteria, such as 20 games minimum played. Otherwise its impossible to have much idea given how many schlubs have played a game or two as fill-ins over the decades. There were some horrendous players in the 70s.
