This topic comes up a lot. And everyone seems to forget Cal Petersen is still making 5 million for contributing absolutely nothing in the NHL.

But everyone keeps saying Seth Jones. Why? Sure he's a bit overpaid at 9.5 million. But there's worse players at that number. He plays 25 minutes a game! His advanced stats are only so bad because of the team he's on. You can't get a player like him for much less.

Greg's River Heights
Honorable mention: Vlasic
Not honorable. He should be #1. He is making $7 million per season and he should be either making league minimum at best or on a two-way contract. He is not an NHL calibre player anymore and hasn't been for some time.

All the other players here are still capable and in almost all cases are still top-4 d-men or top-6 forwards. I'm surprised most people don't have Vlasic as number 1. One of the worst contracts in league history given that as soon as it kicked in he was awful and barely an NHL d-man.

It's just 1 more year after this though.

Huberdeau's ends at the end of the decade when he's 38.

At least Nurse and Jones contracts are ending when they're 35. They shouldn't be on a steep decline yet.

Huberdeau and Nurse are the two worst to me. Karlsson and Jones make the list for sure, 5th guy could be a few different ones.

Pettersson is nowhere close to the top 5 right now (had 21st highest contract by cap% at time of signing when he signed his deal... thats about where he is as a player in the league and its too small a sample to say hes done since his contract is going through his prime).

Huberdeau is by far the actual worst. Seattle has a lot of sneaky horrible deals. Stephenson and Grubauer are the biggest culprits but Bjorkstrand and Burakovsky are kind of horrible too

Anyone putting Petterson in their worst contracts is being absurd, Petey has clearly been playing through an injury, while he underperformed this clearly isn't him at his best.

keep hearing this, if dude look like he'd touched a weight since he'd been drafted I'd be more sympathetic. If you don't physically prepare like a pro then it's not really a fluke when your body breaks down. That's an issue that isn't going to get better with age either.

He was one of my favorite players when he first came into the league, hope he's able to figure things out.
