Worst Contracts in the NHL currently?

Why?

He was playing top-tier hockey for the last three years, 26 minute munching all situations #1 dman? I'd stop just short of saying Norris caliber hockey but he's been up there, near top form.

Exercise caution due to injury sure but it's far from the worst contract in the NHL. I don't think you can defend 'surplus value' with Nurse in one breath and then go for Doughty in the next.

If you want quotes, fine. How does these quotes below look like that you do NOT rather have Nurse than Doughty.

Not even my biggest issue, more like how you overreact on Doughty’s contract, after some good seasons and Nurse’ horrible contract is more than okay for you while he is not even as good as Drew.

Nobody knows why but Nurse is having a good season in Edmonton...as an Oilers fan I am not trusting the peace right now but who knows maybe he can be good ( I am not saying over 9 M good but somewhere around 7 -7.5 M good)

But everyone keeps saying Seth Jones. Why? Sure he's a bit overpaid at 9.5 million. But there's worse players at that number. He plays 25 minutes a game! His advanced stats are only so bad because of the team he's on. You can't get a player like him for much less.

what's worse is Cal Petersen isn't even passable in the AHL, that's something even Jack Campbell has done the past few seasons

.918 and .924 this season vs .902 and .884!

this dude is ECHL quality making 5 million

He was one of my favorite players when he first came into the league, hope he's able to figure things out.

People seem to really gravitate towards high AAVs rather than overpayments in these threads.

For example. Nurse is probably getting overpaid by $2-3m but he's on everybody's list among bad contracts. Andrew Copp is also getting overpaid by $2-3m, but because his caphit is lower, he's not on anybody's list.
If you had to choose, would you rather overpay a #3 dman or a 3C?

There might be five contracts worse than Nurse signed just this offseason. :laugh:

Stamkos just signed for $8 million.
Zadorov is making $5 million for another 4 years.
Skjei just got 7x7 and his numbers are bad in Nashville.
Elias on pace for his second consecutive 40 point season at 7x8
One of the 8+million dollar goalie signing is probably going to end up in the AHL after a season or two. Not sure which.

anderson also overpaid at 5.5 and on pace for 15 goals. also 2 more years.
Poor contracts but I think there are far worse out there when term is taken into consideration

At the beginning of the 23-24 season, Gallagher looked absolutely cooked. Something happened at the midway point last year. He found his legs and started scoring again. Is it too much $? Sure. But that 20g pace, the pain that he still is for the opposition, keep him from being the worst contract.

Andy came into this season and he's brought stuff he never has before. He's been an excellent PK player. He's dropped the gloves and showed a level of engagement he hadn't in the past. Basically, he committed to doing things he hadn't because the goals hadn't been there. Overpaid, but still not the worst deal imo.

It's a toss up between Huberdeau and Nurse for me. Huberdeau's getting a lot of money for a 50 point player, but at least there was a history of performance. Nurse's deal was just outlandish from the moment signed and not based in reality.

Andreas Athanasiou makes $4 million but plays like a $775K player. Couldn’t stick on the roster of the worst team in the league and it’s not like they had to bury to make cap space or anything. Only saving grace is that it was only a two year deal and it expires this season.

I said I love him. Big fan tbh. But he's not getting younger and 11 mill is a lot. Also.. I was wrong on his age. He's younger than I said. I've just never felt it will age well in the final few years.

This will surprise you but I wrote those comments separately for a reason. You combined two different, on purpose, comments and combined them to make up something that was never said.

You are arguing with yourself at this point.
