Jones has 6 ESP in 24 GP this year. Hes -10. Whats more is that 3 defenceman on the Hawks play against elite competition more than Jones (as a % of total TOI). Hes frankly not a good player anymore, hasn't been for several years. His point totals look OK because he plays on the powerplay alot.

Its a fantastic resource to look at player usage. I find it very useful particularly for defenceman to see if they are facing easier or harder matchups

Of course he's -10. Chicago is losing most of their games. Roman Josi is -22. It happens when you play a ton of minutes on a team that is losing.
And 6 ES points in 24 games isn't as bad as you make it sound. Jake Sanderson has 6 ESP in 38 GP this year. Letang has 7 ESP in 35 games.

Not the worst, but Swayman has to be up there this year. Not sure he’s stole a game. Playing pretty meh. Near the bottom in goalie stats after “resetting” the goalie market and all his off season antics regarding the contract

Nurse has been Edmonton's best defenseman this year. Consistency has been an issue, from a year to year basis, but he's earning his cap hit this season. Or most of it at least. At minimum, he shouldn't be in this discussion right now.
Hes -100 since going to Chicago. Sure they are a bad team, and he is a fundamental reason they are bad. His GA/60 is 3.8 during his time there. The Hawks as a team have a GA/60 of about 3.4 in that time.
6 ESP is downright terrible for a dman making 9.5 million.
As for the comparisons to other players: Sanderson has a downright awful OIS% of 3.9% this year. Letang will likely be out of the league soon due to age.
If these are the comparable's you want to bring up for a supposed #1D with a 9.5 mil cap hit, well good grief. Its a terrible contract.

6 even strength points for an offense first defenseman is pretty bad, but -10 on a team like Chicago is actually pretty good in the grand scheme of it all.

Not when you look at the profits made by the league. Think about it, if the players don't get paid, where does that money go? They aren't going to decrease ticket prices or jersey prices. It goes to the billionaire owners if the players don't get paid.Every f***in one of them gets too much money. Like c'mon, Its absurd.
That's partially paying for the front of the deal though. He was elite when he signed that contract, and everyone knew he was going to be on the decline at the end of it.

You mean the team with the 4th lowest shots against? If there is an issue with the Oilers this year, it certainly isn't defensive play. They're comfortably in the playoffs right now too. They have went 20 - 5 - 2 since the start of November, after their annual slow start. The Oilers are playing fine.

People are mostly just trotting out the same old names it appears, even if the players have rebounded. This discussion should be dominated by players who aren't effective, or are buried cap hits playing in the AHL. Cal Petersen, M.E. Vlasic are the worst two in my opinion.

The question wasn't "which team has weaponized cap space the best", it was "which contracts are the worst".
Gallagher pretty comfortably fits the description. An oft injured, 10-15 goal scorer bottom 6 forward is not worth 6.5 million. Hes more of a 2-2.5 million dollar player.

Jonathan hasn't clearly lived up to 10.5M, clearly clearly.
But he's also having an okay season, he's our best offensive guy on a team devoid of talent. Like I don't think people realize how little offensive power this Flames team has. Huberdeau is the only guy trending to score more than 60 points this year. Shango and Kuzmenko make a combined 8.6 million dollars and have 7 goals and 21 points between the two of them
If Sharangovich doesn't return to form, he'll actually have the worst contract on the team next year.Again, not saying he has a good contract; but I'd rather have his contract than Stamkos, Nurse or hell, even someone like Lindholm.
