Worse NHL olympics ever?

I think a big part of it is the big ice. Everyone is afraid to make a mistake on it, so every single team played safe. Keep the middle clogged and everything to the outside.

I have a hard time getting behind 3 goal games when that is the norm. Just do not like the direction coaching and officiating is taking hockey these days.

I don't need to see return of the 80's to be entertained, but I would love to see scoring and offensive skill return to the game. These Olympics were basically the opposite of what I want from the game, and I believe this represents the attitudes of the casual or potential new fan, which our sport desperately needs more of.

You remember how electrifying the games in 2010 were? International ice size plays a large role. It turns the game more into a soccer-style match. Couple that with poor ice conditions and you get players who are afraid to pass the puck large distances for fear of dangerous turnovers.

Contrast that by watching two NHL flagship teams play, (Chicago and Pittsburgh) and you'll see that the NHL doesn't want a boring game any more than you do.

Canada is in a league of their own. I am not surprised it's boring at all. We're just too good right now.

OT win over Finland. Turth be told, I wasn't very impressed by Canada, especially offensively. But still the best, by far the best depth.

As far the games. The final was quite bad. Sweden just didn't put up any fight. But overall I think it was great. The size of the ice could have been smaller. Somewhere between what it was here and NHL.

Just looking at scores?

Even the close games were not that close. Canada had issues finishing, but creating chances was never a problem..

Latvia 1 Canada..............2! Dominance Against AHL goalie

I'm joking btw, I think Canada dominated as the games got more important.

Yea goalies can win single game elimination tournaments that's nothing new

Canada vs The World live from Everest base camp lets do this

I as a Canadian, I apologize for not playing end to end pond hockey. In the name of fairness, we promise to put together a third team to make it more fair.

:)

I really enjoyed the Vancouver Olympics especially the gold medal game between USA and Canada. I think a lot of that had to do with the smaller ice and hitting, it was so intense. This year's USA Canada game was suspenseful but, not quite the same intensity for me. Both were good games but I liked it better on smaller ice.

LOL at the people saying Canada team numbers 2 and 3 would win the silver and bronze...You really think Canada 3 can beat the other top countries?

You make some good points. But I watch the Penguins every night, and interference has been working it's way back into the game for a while now. Then in January, the level of clutching and grabbing exploded - looked like late 90's hockey again heading into the Olympics.

I fear for the future of the NHL game the way things are headed now.

It wasn't as exciting because Canada dominated unlike any team we've seen at the Olympics since the NHLers started participating. Their puck possession and zone time against every single opponent was unreal.

To me, the Russia-US was the most exciting game. Canada is just too good... and redundant

OK....I'll buy that. I would of been pissed if we traded chances with the Swedes and US just because we could.

I didn't like that Bobcock didn't play Subban, but by the middle of the US game, it was clear that he was going to execute a grinding defensive game and nothing but. Collapse/attack, rinse/repeat at full speed, all out for 60 minutes. His shift were so short that it probably cost us a few scoring opportunities and puck possessions.

Most of you are not old enough to know this....back when Bowman was coaching the great Hab team, he had a stop watch in his pocket and had the players execute the very same system.......with obvious results. Obviously Bowman had the personal to do this with.....and so did Bobcock at an even greater level.

Before the CAN-USA game, non-Canadians were saying TC was weak, they were lucky to be in the easiest Group, that they would get trounced as soon as they played a "real" team, etc.

Now, after the final two games, the story changed: Canada dominated the whole tournament, they never had any competition, etc. The backtracking is hilarious, I guess it would be pretty embarrassing to lose to a supposedly weak team that barely squeaked by Norway, Finland, and Latvia. It's so much more comforting to tell yourself your team never had a chance anyway.

Same thing for the "excitement" factor. Before being completely shut down against TC, most American fans thought the tournament was plenty exciting. Phil Kessel was the best player ever, the American offence was so dynamic and explosive, so on, and so on.

Now, after being completely outclassed by the Canadians, and utterly embarrassed by the Finns, this Olympic tournament is apparently the most boring ever?

I'll admit, the ending was rather anti-climactic. CAN-SWE, there is nothing between those teams. Add in the fact that SWE had no chance of winning without their full roster and, ya, it was an uneventful final. I would have much preferred USA or RUS in the final.

The size of the rink and poor ice conditions also contributed to an overall product that was less exciting than what we were treated with in 2010.

Still, even taking those things into account, I think the opinion that this tournament was the "worst ever" is heavily influence by massive butt-hurt.

All out, 60 minutes.

I was surprised that even when it when the Swedes had given up towards the final five minutes or so, Canada still had the foot on the gas pedal.

We made the US woman's team cry on international tv.....INTERNATIONAL TV

Let's face it the US men's team was close too

Again, it had nothing to do with Canada being so good.

I didn't watch a Canada game until the Semifinals. Tournament was boring before that aside from the US/Russia game and that is probably just because of some lingering, BS Cold War/Miracle/Putin in the stands hype that went into it.

Crowds were horrible. Big ice is less exciting. Very little hitting and no hatred.

Even in the NHL, rivalries rule the day. US/Canada on the small ice in 2010 was fantastic with the '96 World Cup on another plan of existence--even if the US would of lost--compared to these Games.

In all honesty, these Games felt like what we will see in the NHL in 10 years if the pacifists continue to whine their way into changing the sport. If all I want to do is watch guys skate, I'll watch speed or figure skating. I want to see collisions, intensity and attitude to go along with my skating.

this, when one team dominates the way Canada did, they tend to suck the excitement out, because everyone knows that no one can touch Canada, and it becomes boring if the outcome isn't in doubt
