Not sure how many games I will see however I am looking forward to it. I think Canada will be down about a dozen players from the squad iced in December 2021. I'm looking forward to a younger less dominant group, and hopefully a more competitive tournament. Not sure about the US and how many players they may be down but this should add interest for all of us.

I doubt the tournament will be more competitive without Russia. Kinda down to 4 countries that realistically have a gold medal shot.

It's going to 2 WJC tournaments this year with basically the same teams, whoever falls short in august will get a rematch in december.

Will feel strange.
Certainly never been done before... there will be subtle changes, especially for teams underperforming in August..

I'm heading to Halifax... 2003 was special and i am confident the city can recapture that magic..

How will the teams be basically the same when for the winter one most of the players won't be eligible anymore?

The dude is confused....happens here in this forum a lot. I chuckle at the nonsense I read every morning,, there is almost always a spit out my coffee reaction to typical hf nonsense.

here's the situation: if a lot of the '02s born players opt out of the summer do-over, most of those spots will go to either other '02 born players (who are not eligible to play in the Christmas tournament in Dec/Jan -'23.

OR they will go to '03-'04 players...all of whom are eligible to play the Christmas tournament in Halifax/Moncton. So, if Team Canada ices a team of mostly '03 born players, we could see Hockey Canada bring back the same team (more or less) in December. depending on results, of course.

Yeah, that is what I initially thought, thanks,

And who was talking about Team Canada, again? With Team Finland, players usually don't decline.

Looking at Team Finland's preliminary roster for example, 9 out of 10 defensemen are 02. And 10 out of 15 forwards are 02.

Completely agreed. Just happened for me.

Some are talking about the possibilities of cancelling the event. Many teams are reluctant to let their prospects playing while the camps are scheduled to start during the same period. The Team Canada actual problems are also a serious concern.

Hockey Canada should just tell their good canadian boys that they are not allowed to gangrape girls at least during the WJC... I really see no reason to cancel the tournament because of what happened in 2018 or 2003

Hockey Canada has lost Government support as well as some of its most important sponsors. The whole management must quit or be fired.

Just cancel it. Let TSN (Bell Media/ESPN) file a lawsuit against various government bodies or let IIHF do it. I'd like to see that process play out.

I don't understand why when the Hockey Canada scandals releaseed, people were talking about whether the tournament should be canceled. Most of team Canada's players will play on a bigger stage in the future, but for many European kids, the WJC is probably the most important international tournament they can play in. Why take the spotlight away from these EU kids? If people think Team Canada is guilty, Team Canada should be banned, instead of cancelling the whole tournament.
