Quinn hughes best defending comes when he is back-checking.

He is so good at just rubbing a player out and stripping the player and out skating him.
But his gap control needs huge work, and his loose puck recovery is really weak.

But he he outplayed Boqvist by miles today. It wasnt even close.

Man I usually agree with you but if you watched this game and thought what you're thinking you're delirious.

He's never gonna be a great defender just like Karlsson or any other elite defenseman in the league. He's an offensive defenseman. He won't be on the ice for penalty kills and he won't be on the ice if they're trying to protect a lead. That's how it works. He'll be out there for powerplays and any time the team is in need of a goal etc.

And as far as his defense goes, its not as bad as you are describing it to be. Yeah he made a few mistakes this game but you are micro-analyzing it like no defenseman ever make mistakes.

You've nailed it. Karlsson and Subban were both horrible defensively when they first entered the league. But their teams stuck with them because of what they could do on the offence. Over time, they became passable defensively, without sacrificing their offence. They learned how to pick their spots. I just hope the Canucks don't make the mistake of asking Q to work on his defense at the expense of stifling his offensive creativity.

One of the most dynamic defenceman I have seen drafted in a little while.

Crazy draft class, dahlin, hughes. And bouchard dobson ty as well.

Just an unreal class for Dmen.

Now we got the good Canadian boys tonight against the Finns. This draft was absolutely unbelievable for Dmen. Probably the best since 2008?

If I was Ottawa I wouldn't even allow Tkachuk to make a decision.
Just flat out say go back to Boston.

He isnt ready.
You don't want your top prospect to be around a trash team just after getting drafted.

Anyone have the lineup for Canada?

Really want to see Bouchard play tonight.

You are the one micro-analyzing. I’m merely observing what I saw from him in this game. You are the one getting into what type of player he is and claiming that I’m saying he’s a bad defender. I didn’t bring any of that up.

I’m commenting on his defense in this game. I think that’s pretty evident from what I said. You should re-read what I wrote.

You're just deflecting my post. Clearly you think his defensive game is poor. Man you're difficult to argue witho_O

The people making those decisions are the reason why its a trash team. I agree he should go back to BU.. not becuase he's not good.. He is raw and needs time to fill out to do his thing in the NHL

Finlands first line is good Talvitie - Kupari - Kakko but the rest of the team is crap B or C team material

Re-watch the first period. He must’ve had like four or so really bad defensive actions. Credit to him for making some offensive players late on, but I don’t see what these people mean when they claim he was great. I don’t know how a defenseman can play a great game when they play such a loose defensive game.

There's a shift by shift video of Hughes on the game already, there were no "four or so" really bad defensive actions not only in the first period, but the whole game. He had "four or so" really GOOD defensive actions throughout the game.

This video has literally debunked all of what you said about Hughes defensively tonight. I had watched the game, and I was surprised by your comments, and really the only thing I took from this shift by shift was nothing, other than the fact that you aren't a reliable person.

Team Canada's lineup seems relatively weak.

My guess is they'll be dressing a stronger lineup for the games against Sweden and the Yanks.

How many defenders does Canada have atm, perplexing Bouchard isn’t in the lineup

Yeah, it makes no sense he had a nice assist on a shot from the point last game. I noticed Smith isn't playing either. I was really looking forward to seeing Bouchard play tonight.

This lineup choice doesn't make a lot of sense unless they plan on stacking the lineup the next two games.

from a entertainment standpoint I wish the lineup was better but its just a showcase in the summer... obviously management wants to see certain guys play and sit out a lot of guys that are definitely going to be on the team. Don't blame them at all sitting some of the guys they are sitting
