Quinn Hughes WTF! He's so nasty. Dominated the game every time he was on the ice.
One of the most dynamic defenceman I have seen drafted in a little while.

Crazy draft class, dahlin, hughes. And bouchard dobson ty as well.

It will be fun to watch him play another year in Michigan .. every shift he makes something happen

Wow, that was an exciting finish. I haven’t had the fortune of seeing Quinn play, but based on the highlights from earlier and watching OT, I’m very impressed. The last 30-45 seconds it felt inevitable he would score/assist.

Can anyone comment on whether this was a one-off great game, or is it pretty in line with how he played last season?

Unsurprisingly the Hughes brothers were dominant.

I'm biased as a Flyer fan, but I thought Farabee had a great game and O'Brien was solid.

Berggren was great as well.

This is basically what he does, he is a dynamic offensive D-man that makes an occasional bad defensive play being aggresive once in awhile.

Disagree. He played solid, and his defensive game wasn’t awful. He’s an offensive defenseman after all, you can’t expect shutdown performances.

Re-watch the first period. He must’ve had like four or so really bad defensive actions. Credit to him for making some offensive players late on, but I don’t see what these people mean when they claim he was great. I don’t know how a defenseman can play a great game when they play such a loose defensive game.

He was not bad defensively, I have no clue what in the world you watched.

He controlled the puck in his own zone, and made breakout pass after breakout pass all game.

You are out to lunch completely.
I agree with Pavel. Hughes wasnt that great. I Saw the game. Good prospect though

Because most people don’t watch the game, they just look at highlights. Offensively, he was very good, defensively he wasn’t amazing, but if you’re expecting a good defensive performance then stop because he’s not an amazing defender.

He’s a defenseman. I expect him to be able to defend first. If you play like trash defensively, which he did, I don’t know how you could have more than an average game. And he probably did have an average game because of making some offensive plays, but why should we ignore his bad defense?

Man I usually agree with you but if you watched this game and thought what you're thinking you're delirious.

He's never gonna be a great defender just like Karlsson or any other elite defenseman in the league. He's an offensive defenseman. He won't be on the ice for penalty kills and he won't be on the ice if they're trying to protect a lead. That's how it works. He'll be out there for powerplays and any time the team is in need of a goal etc.

And as far as his defense goes, its not as bad as you are describing it to be. Yeah he made a few mistakes this game but you are micro-analyzing it like no defenseman ever make mistakes.

Just to clarify, I’m certainly aware of what type of game he plays and I think he’s a very good player.

So just to be 100% clear, you are attacking quinn for being exactly what he is, a dynamic offensive d-man?

If he was great defensively and had this dynamic offensive style, he would be a generational talent, what you are asking is delusional.

I am curious, what do you think of Dahlin?

You are the one micro-analyzing. I’m merely observing what I saw from him in this game. You are the one getting into what type of player he is and claiming that I’m saying he’s a bad defender. I didn’t bring any of that up.

I’m commenting on his defense in this game. I think that’s pretty evident from what I said. You should re-read what I wrote.

His defense is so so for sure.. His game is attack, attack, attack and try to score more than them . Fun player to watch.

He can defend, it's just needing more maturity and taking the responsibility seriously every shift. That's why he's going back to college, it'll be good for him.

In fun pointless news, Quinn Hughes is #2 Trend in canada right now.

Not bad for a random summer game.

I am just happy I can watch some hockey during this time, just love it.

Here is the goal with sound, for people who missed it.

It always cracks me up when the "well-rounded" tag gets dug up for players like Q. Hughes. Players like him are the future of the NHL from the defensive position. He's there to have the puck on his stick and skate and make plays. Save the "defense" for the lesser lights.

Jack Hughes is nasty. Needs to put on weight, he got pushed around a bit out there and seemed to be down on the ice a decent amount for a player of his calibre but he has the time to do it. His talent is off the charts

Quinn Hughes is gonna be one of those guys that you love one game and hate the next I think. Obviously anyone who watched today is going to love him but theres some stuff in that defensive zone that I could see costing a big goal in a big game. Lots of time to develop for him though too, and hard to tell how serious hes taking a game in the middle of the summer after he just got drafted so high

As a wings fan I thought Bergrren was pretty solid as well for Sweden
