World Junior Championships Thread - Garand, Othmann, Cuylle win GOLD!

Duclair was traded too early in my opinion. Gropp and Tambo don’t count. They couldnt even stay in the AHL. They shot the puck and that is all the skill that they had in their game. They did not anything else well. Both stunk And should have went undrafted Gropp only looked good because of Barzal of all players.
I didn't mind the Duclair trade. It was a hockey move, to get Yandle. It wasn't like we gave up on him, like a lot of people claim for whatever reason. If anyone should have regrets about Duclair, it should be Arizona who moved him for a season plus of Richard Panik, or Chicago who didn't even qualify him.

As far as Gropp and Tambellini, I'm not trying to compare them to Othmann or anything, just listing them as other reasonably high shoot-first picks of ours.

Lol Othmann skating as an extra because of 2 dumb penalties

I remember last off-season when I said that he tries to be someone he isn’t and that leads to him taking dumb penalties. We saw it ourselves in pre-season but everyone thought his discipline would improve over time

Looks like it’s still true. There’s no chance he ever ends up a top 6 forward. I keep telling you guys his game isn’t translating. He’s like 8-10 on our prospect list. Not top 3
Eh. Othmann is the real deal. Tough as nails, great skater, elite shooter and goal scorer. He visibly made that top line better. From shift 1 while Roy has been a passenger.

Also, that's who he is. He's a pest. He likes trash talk, heavy hits and fighting. Everybody hates to play against Othmann. He's always gonna take dumb penalties but he's gonna draw way more than he takes himself.

You can like him or not but he's not gonna change. He's crazy about hockey and wants to win one way or the other and he's gonna try to use everything legal and sometimes also illegal to his teams advantage.

I don't think you can and should coach that out of him so Cameron's move was really stupid. He's had that line on day1 of camp and still scratched Othmann and it took him until deep into game2 to realize the combination he started camp with is actually working:help:

Othman is literally the third Tkachuk brother in the same vain of Spike Dudley of the Dudley Boyz... I rest my case he will be a pest of a top 6 goal scorer.

He's known as a really poor skater, but I thought his skating looked decent today

I liked Berard shooting it after the offside whistle lol, little things like that and how hard he smacks his stick on the ice demanding the puck and when he just randomly slashes or shoves the other teams winger he's lined up against after the face-off. Kid is just an arrogant prick lol, we could use some of that edge/swagger

I thought the majority of scouting reports said that he was a pretty good skater, he just need to improve his mechanics in order to accelerate better?
From most of the stuff I remeber it seemed implied that it was something that could be fixed/improved pretty easily witha coach and a will to do so

No shot you just called him a great skater

And Roy was better in today’s game. He’s just not a passenger like Othmann is which is why he needed his own line to get going

I have no idea what you're talking about. Sorry.

Is McTavish a poor skater or just awkward looking ?
For the elite player that he is, his skating is pretty poor indeed. When him and Othmann played in Switzerland in a fast league on European ice, the difference was visible.

Luke Hughes looks unreal. Devils are set up to be good for a long time. Long painful rebuild but looks extremely promising. Did it right.
I love when people say this. They haven't made the playoffs for 10 years and counting even with a bunch of top picks. Let's pump the brakes. My team just went to the ECF after a 4-5 year rebuild.

Don’t worry. He just never liked Othmann, as he said earlier. He’s invested in being “right,” not so much with making a coherent point, and even if Othmann is an all star some day I doubt he will be convinced Othmann is any good. He already claimed Othmann couldn’t crack the top 12 forwards on this team (Whoops) in this the final U20 he is eligible for (he’s eligible for the next one too) and that he took a bunch of penalties last preseason (he didn’t take any). Hahaha. There’s no point arguing with those sorts.

Ok. I figured it would be something like this. Well. If you read the Canada WJC or the game thread of the world championships forum just about everybody agreed that adding Othmann made the line better and be it for the reason alone that he doesn't need the puck a lot to add value. He's effective against the puck as well and can shoot the puck.

A lot of folks here who follow the kids have portrayed Cuylle as probably a bottom 6 guy, but these same folks have been saying Othmann might be ready for a top 6 role with the Rangers next season. If that's true, then the guys ahead of him must be sure-fire NHL stars.
25 people a day post their Ranger line combinations and I have yet to see even the most optimistic posters put him in the top 6. In fact, I’m not even sure I’ve seen him in the lineup.
