What a boneheaded move by Sykora.
When you have A in your game jersey that means even you are assistant captain
and you're into leadership role which means you have to be an example for your teammates
but it doesn't mean that you take idiotic 5+20 min penalties for kneeing.

Sykora should be smarter than that.

It was only 5 because of the olympic rules. If it was the AHL or NHL it would have been 2 mins at that is it. Stupid play but it was not that bad of a trip

You think that's bad, you should see what a former NYR player with a C on his chest used to do!!!

so do the Rangers have the highest number of suspended players? Or do these game misconducts end at just the game of infraction? I feel like IIHF would have some automatic 1 game suspension rule.

I don't think Czechia is out. It's usually the 4 teams with the highest points from group A and the 4 highest from group B
CAN, FIN, LAT, CZE from A
USA, SWE, GER, (tbd SUI/AUT) from B
then it's something like
A1 vs B4
A2 vs B3
B1 vs A4
B2 vs A3
So USA will play CZE, CAN will get either SUI or AUT
the winner of SWE vs GER will get LAT, the lose will play FIN

I believe they are just for that game. The IIHF can add additional games however.

The refs need to read the effin rule book lol, that is a bad call.

A 5 shall be called if a player hurts someone and has intent of hurting someone. This is a classic instance of a reckless play, but definitely not intent to hurt. No injury.

IIHF rules are different from NHL rules of course. IIHF doesn't specify intent to injure as a necessary reason for a major penalty. Reckless endangerment is enough and despite Sýkora not having the intention to injure Kemell, his actions are reckless.

Hm, they changed the rules then. This requisite seem very broad. Don’t mind it re kneeing penalties really, but on checking from behind it becomes really discretionary. It’s hard for players to prevent, players turns last second. Like sure, some cases when the players turn fast it’s impossible to stop and it’s not reckless. But there are so many hits from behind that aren’t really that dangerous but definitely could be labeled “reckless”. If the guy you hit are in balance it’s a nothing hit but hitting someone ‘the length of the blades’, it don’t take much to knock someone like Chara down. At least like once every other game if not more you have these border line hits from behind. My bet is that it will be a total coinflip which are called and which aren’t.

Here
Score didn't reflect the game last night. USA dominated the Swedes for the most part. Tons of 50/50 puck wins and takeaways. USA played a gritty, aggressive game yesterday with everyone involved.

Berard continues to play his game. Huge first goal on the PP to get the team going. He seems to be picking his moments, conserving energy and playing a little more of a smarter, mature game than last year where he was just flat out buzzing around everywhere. I think he will get a shot at the NHL level, but to what degree and longevity is the question.

Really love the Knies kid. Heavy on the body, but can also really handle the puck. Too bad he didnt fall 7 more spots to the Rangers in the 21 draft
