I'm gonna stop you right there with the BO moniker. We're not going to do that here. That's worse than Lias Andersson's LA.
You have more of a problem with BO than the resident groomer? Ok, guy.

I like this Del Mastro kid. Hawks have a good dman prospect here

Absolutely. Not much offense but definitely looks like a future NHLer which isn't a given for 4th rounders. Surprised he didn't get picked earlier after his strong WJC18 performance. May have been one of those OHL victims. Rock solid defender with respectable grit.

What are some of the top performances by a Rangers prospect at WJC?

Where Othmann plays next season is going to be a tough decision
Yeah. He's ahead of schedule which is a scary thought. At the draft I said I wouldn't be shocked if he turned into one of his drafts top players, a superstar because he can do everything. Great hands, superb shot and shot selection, good skater, very efficient against the puck, be it defensively, along the walls or on the forecheck. High energy player, volume hitter, fighter, pest and just a pain in the ass to play against.

Much like others I thought he was gonna take time though. Very much looked like a project with all the tools already there but a lot of sharpening and offseason training needed. For example, in Switzerland his decision making was very inconsistent, frustration at times got the better of him and he often tried to force plays. That's obviously not the case anymore. In my view he was the OHL's most dominant and most consistent player...on a team with very little offense. And he didn't even play with the other more skilled guys like Lombardi much. He did it all himself.

There's literally no point in him playing another OHL season. It would be next to impossible for him to get any better playing vs kids. If he plays OHL next season the best case scenario would be a lost year. Is he good enough to play NHL though and if so, would the Rangers even give him a chance? I'm not sure. I think at the very least they'll take a very long, close look at him in camp though.

Right, but he can't play in the AHL and junior seems like it would almost be detrimental at this point. So where does he play? That's the question.

In the 2014-15 season, the Rangers played Anthony Duclair in the NHL for an extended time. They then sent him down after 39 games to preserve an additional year of RFA eligibility.

I could see a similar scenario happening with Othmann, although the odds of it happening are smaller now than a few months ago. The addition of Kravtsov and Carpenter, who you'd think are pencilled into the line-up, make it hard to fight for a spot.

Yeah. AHL or Europe would be great for Othmann but Flint isn't gonna release him. Whatever the Rangers decide to do with Othmann, it's likely not gonna be ideal for his development. Which is the real downside of that CHL agreement. There's not many cases like Othmann but for these guys it's really tough.

I bet he gets 9 games and with his skill set that this team needs more of, I wont be surprised if he stays with the team. Rangers can use a passionate feisty skilled physical top 6 winger. I rather have Othmann in the top 6 over Kakko based on the type of game he plays. I can see him be a Wayne Simmonds Matthew Tkachuk type and on Cuylle, I think he can be a Lucic Bruins type Tom WIlson 2/3rd line power winger. I think Cuylle is too skilled for a 4th line role.

Maybe let Othmann destroy the OHL and get him comfortable with the idea of being top dog.

On the flip side, it would be easy for him to become bored and checked out.

He destroyed the OHL last season. It would be almost impossible for him not to get bored or develop bad habits at the very least. Again, in my view, the best case for him would be a lost year if he has to play another OHL season. Now that Cavallin isn't around anymore Flint likely won't get the same quality goaltending so they're probably not gonna contend even though it's a young team that's gonna get better.

Sucks because I truly believe that Othmann would be a menace in the AHL next season and really continue to build on this monster season he had this year. Sucks that some of these rules can be to the detriment of a young player.

Is another OHL season "suitable for his development" though? I doubt it.

It didn't hurt Scheifele, Barzal, Robitaille, Richards, Garland, Giroux, Trocheck, Kyrou, Robertson, Perry, Toffoli, Domi, Suzuki, Ryan, Eberle etc. playing junior hockey in their D+2.

Yeah, we would love to see him in the NHL but I think we're a bit too negative when talking about the scenario of him going back to the OHL for another year.

How many of those guys dominated the OHL the way Othmann did? On top of my head I'd say not many. Again, keep in mind Othmann did this with almost zero offensive support. Had he played on a good team or even just a team with more elite offensive talent, not just a team with superb goaltending, his point totals would be significantly higher.
