Just watching the Slovak game delayed. Love the compete level of Sykora and some decent skill as well. Looks like an excellent late second round pick especially considering his birthdate/age as well.

I continue to be as happy as i was on draft day that we got Sykora. He's the type of player that Tampa would have in their bottom 6 and everyone would be screaming how we passed on drafting him. Quick, high hockey IQ, and super competitive with underrated skill

Here's our top-9 line-up and years we have left (for UFAs):

Kreider (4) - Zibanejad (8) - Lafrenière (RFA)
Panarin (4) - Trocheck (7) - Kakko (RFA)
Berard (RFA) - Chytil (RFA) - Kravtsov (RFA)
Cuylle (RFA) - Korczak (RFA) - Othmann (RFA)
Sýkora (RFA) - McConnell-Barker (RFA) - Chmelař (RFA)

Now, not all of these will make it but it's interesting to see that we have a plan in place. I love that we have drafted players with 3rd line potential because, as you said, those are the guys you want to develop yourself and not give up 1st rounders for like Tampa did with Goodrow, Coleman and Hagel.

Where is Dvorsky elegible in the draft? Top 20 overall pick? Not familiar with him but he seems to have skill.
Maros Jedlicka can be drafted as an overager. Same can be said for Rayen Petrovicky can be drafted as an overage. Rangers scouts better be doing their homework
2023. Top 10 certainly (for now). Last I saw draft rankings from the American journalists he was 4-6th pick. Bedard and Mickhov are top 2 then big gap number 3 Fantilli, another not that big gap Carlson, Dvorsky and few other guys competing for 4-8 maybe? But this Slovakian roaster is an awful one, especially in the defense. We have been hit by the omission of Slaf, Nemec, Mesar, and two other D's. Three out of four best defensemen in this class are out. This could have been the strongest U20 roaster in Slovak history instead of that it is one of the weakest. I hope winter U20 will be better for us and that will be Dvorsky's time to shine.

25 people a day post their Ranger line combinations and I have yet to see even the most optimistic posters put him in the top 6. In fact, I’m not even sure I’ve seen him in the lineup.

Somebody posted him possibly in the lineup and I believe it was yesterday. Might have even been in this thread. And it's happened before.

In the line-up for the full season? In the line-up for max 9 games to preserve the ELC slide? Or in the line-up in the future?

Drury likes players who compete. Play hard. I remember listening to Seravalli regarding the Rangers interest in Kadri. Seravalli said the Rangers love how Kadri competes. He is a very competitive player. That compete level might be one reason Drury was down on Panarin's playoff performance.

I didn't think Panarin had a compete problem, he had a "I'm going to play like a dumb ass" problem.

Of the top guys, Kreider's compete was the most wishy washy in the playoffs.

Take a Wild Guess
Per exit interviews (what was public), Panarin admitted he was shit in the playoffs, needs to work on some aspects of his game and would be different next go around. Obviously, he's a world-class player for a reason, compete level being one of them. I see no reason why we shouldn't take him at his word.

Anyway, as good as last season was, there is a so much room for improvement that it's pretty exciting to be a fan of this team going forward.

People will either fail to understand this or just flat out underrate it’s importance. The playoffs are about desire. That’s why the hockey is often so ugly. There are still points to be compiled in low leverage situations simply because the playoffs are so long, but the team that wins it all is the one that had the best combination of luck and desire. Often times desire and compete create luck.

The absolute best players in the league, and in the playoffs, are the ones that combine skill and fire. MacKinnon and Crosby are very comparable in this area. Laf looks to be one of those players, assuming his skill continues to develop.

Panarin is simply not. Panarin on a line with Strome is basically the antithesis of what you want to be throwing out on the ice against guys that are laying it all on the line to win the Cup.

I support Drury’s philosophy.

Really makes you wonder how this kid fell to the end of round 2.
I like him but i hope we arent starting the hype train on him based on a game vs Latvia. He certainly has some skill but he needs to get stronger and hopefully bigger before he can do that in the nhl.

Luke is gonna be damn good, better than Owen Power IMO
Power will be a tier ahead of L. Hughes. I do like L. Hughes A LOT more than Q. Hughes though

Dvorsky is probably considered the biggest disappointment of the tournament. He’s supposed to be a top 3-5 guy but is playing poorly with low compete. I’m definitely underwhelmed

Not really size, Sykora wasn’t even a target for most up until the WC and a late season surge. He probably rose more relative to rankings towards the end of the season more than anyone else. One of the youngest in the draft too and is considered by many to be the most improved over the course of the season

Although it’s weird there’s been hype around Nemec forever but Sykora wasn’t even talked about up until a few months ago considering they play together

Sykora I considered a late 1st/early 2nd. He was my #1 target with our 1st pick and I couldn’t believe he dropped to us, but even he rose late for me

Love his game, there’s a mix of Motte and Goodrow there. Still unsure about offensive upside but he’s an NHLer somehow

The question I have about Sykora is, if his offensive touch doesn't develop enough to be a top 6 NHL player, can he work his way into a Jesper Fast type role.
