Tom Nilsson has really stepped up when Sweden lost their high end defenders. He's been their best D, and has really anchored their blueline. Excited to have him.

Maybe we'll start seeing his name in future Leafs' line-ups now?

Seems to play a smart game out there, wasn't perfect, but he played a lot ... seemed to be every second shift.

He definitely was relied on heavily, maybe it was me but his skating seemed a bit off. However he played up to the task and did well in shutting down his opponent and not to mention a good timely block.

Sounds like it'll be a good final between Sweden and the US ... Biggs vs Nilsson should be some good battling in the corners

Good to have players who step up in important games

At least Canada will have the chance to shut out the Russians of a medal, on their home turf no less

Really depends on which team remains motivated, Canada seems like a Gold or nothing team, and the Russians still have an audience to play for.

Who starts in net for Canada?

.. Wait Canada has another goalie on the roster that's not Subban?

knowing spott...it'll be subban again.

If our team has some flame left or supposedly had some flame for the game that they were suppose to show up for in the morning, they better show it against the russians.

Just my thoughts on the game.

I thought Reilly was OK for Canada, and probably same through the whole tournament. Number of times he picked up the puck and just blew by the opposition. Excellent accelaration and has great hands. Passing also looked very good. Definitely needs to improve on the defensive side of his game. Positioning seemed a little off at time and would like to see him more aggressive in the crease area. Seemed like he barely played in first 10 mins of today's game. I really think this kid would benefit more from another year in junior.

Biggs was very good for the USA today. Had a couple of decent scoring chances from angled shots around the net. Used his size affectively without really throwing any huge hits. Used on the PK and did a really good job. Seemed like he was used more as the game wore on which is a good indication he is trusted by the coaching staff when protecting a lead.

I honestly think Canada needs to get a way from picking 19 year olds every year. There is no way MacKinnon shouldnt be used as a top six forwards in this tournament, regardless of his age. Another thing I would like to see. They always take 3 goaltenders, so take a guy who is being groomed for future tournaments (Fucale, Comrie) as the third keeper so they can at least get the experience.

I think the hockey 'hate' for Russia will make it an interesting game. If it was Sweden, I think it would have been more of a snoozer.

Maybe it's a function of watching replay games knowing the outcome beforehand, but I didn't find too many Canadian characters you could really get behind and support, like in years past guys like Stefan Della Rovere who would energize the roster. Even the stars this year seemed boring. I just didn't care about RNH, Huberdeau or Strome that much.

No, it's not hindsight, this team was really bland. I mean, RNH has been alright, but as an NHLer I expected a lot more of him, he hasn't been nearly as dominating as he could/should be. Same with the returnees, none of them have really grabbed this team either. Maybe Jenner could have been that guy for us this year, but he missed half the tournament...

Funny thing is, next year there may be only 2 returneesin Subban and Patterson...Rielly and Reinhart are the only 2012 draftees and MacK+Drouin might go straight to the NHL.

I think they pick more 19 year olds to compensate vs. other countries who have 18-19 year olds playing in men leagues. Maybe they feel a younger group wouldn't be able to compete physically?

I do agree with the goaltending angle though. Think more teams should be doing that.
