I agree in the sense that I'd be fine with a real WC outside the Olympics, and it theoretically could work. But it'd need to be organised by the IIHF, not the NHL. Soccer's World Cup isn't help by the Premier League with it deciding who can play, making the rules and holding all games in London. I know it'll never happen because the NHL has the money, but ideally it would stick to club hockey and let countries put together their tournament.None of that has relevance to what I said. The mindless claims that the Olympics is always the pinnacle in every sport, every sport sends its best athletes to the Olympics, etc. are demonstrably false if someone only takes a look at soccer.
You just better get used to not seeing them for a very long time.In my opinion if they leave Russia out it won't mean anything! If you want best on best Russia has to be part of it!!!
I read an article saying they'd have 2023 qualifying for it . But if no Russia I have no idea who has to qualify.lol. Seems straightforwardWhen you leave Russia out you get a good set of teams:
Canada
USA
Sweden
Finland
Czechia
Slovakia
Germany
Switzerland
No need for any qualification matches.
I agree that it weakens it for sure. Very frustrating for sure! Plus, Russia. Hockey was on the rise IMO... Elite goalies and some very good D in the pipe.In my opinion if they leave Russia out it won't mean anything! If you want best on best Russia has to be part of it!!!
Absolutely! How can you have a real WC of hockey and not have Russia, one of the top hockey nation in the world? Just like this year WHC is not going to be the same without Russia, you're missing one of the top team! It's weakenI agree that it weakens it for sure. Very frustrating for sure! Plus, Russia. I hope you're right! I think we need to separate politics and sports2024 is still two years away, I could envision a return of Russia from being banned rightly or wrongly by then. Best news though...abolishment of the terrible gimmick teams.
I think Denmark could be a candidate. They might be an underdog in a qualifying tournament vs. Germany, Switzerland and Slovakia, but they could surprise.I read an article saying they'd have 2023 qualifying for it . But if no Russia I have no idea who has to qualify.lol. Seems straightforward
I definitely agree and would even include Czechs in qualifying Group. I am just curious how NHL sees it since them and I view international hockey differently.I think Denmark could be a candidate. They might be an underdog in a qualifying tournament vs. Germany, Switzerland and Slovakia, but they could surprise.
I would also never count out Latvia, mostly because of goaltending, but they would definitely be a longshot.
I'd be stunned if Russian sport teams are still suspended by 2024. The current situation looks like it's cooling down with both sides agreeing to more peace talks.
There haven't been amateurs on international tournaments in like 60 yearsI don't want to see any amateurs. This is an NHL best-on-best event, so only the best players in the world should be there.
My guess, and hope I'm wrong, is that 'amateurs' are players not in the NHL.There haven't been amateurs on international tournaments in like 60 years
I have a question for you, why is Russia national hockey team not allowed to participate in WC but Russians players are allowed to participate in NHL? If you're going to ban Russia from international competition, should Russian players also be banned from participating in NHL and or any European domestic league?I wouldn't hold my breath. Russia likely uses peace talks to reorganise units. I wouldn't expect a quick resolution to the situation. Russian team will likely stay away from hockey for quite some time.

Because you seem to be an "expert" on this topic! Why are you asking me?
