The only argument ever used against team NA was that they are young and inexperienced which is as usual a nonsense narrative driven argument. The team is stacked with really good offensive players throughout the lineup.

Well I'm pretty sure all 12 forwards playing are better than JT Miller so that is probably why he is not playing.

Sean Couturier is beyond overrated and brings next to nothing offensively.

If he wasn't wearing an A he would be just as much of a candidate to sit. Not to mention he's done nothing this tournament.

To be honest I have always found Saad pretty overrated too. He's better than Miller, but hasn't done jack this tournament either.

Edit: forgot Couts is a center. I'm pretty sure there are a few guys playing wing that can play the middle on this team too, no?

The only person who I might sit over Miller on this team is Trocheck, and I probably wouldn't even do that.

Bob will need to stand on his head here.. this team is awesome.

Well, until an experience team start play physical - I think Sweden for instance has a great matchup vs team NA.
Russian noticed that late in 1st period when they had pressure with physical play, but it`s so early in season for the veterans. :)

Sean Couturier brings next to nothing offensively? He scored at a higher rate than Miller last season...

Honestly I'm surprised that Miller is even on the team over guys like Domi or Jenner or even Duclair.

Clearly, the management of Team NA had a reason for picking Miller over Galchenyuk/Jenner. It's not like JT is a schmuck that can't play.

Team USA is not out yet though - they only need to win two games. ;)
Canada will probably win over Team EU who lost 1 pts. due to a really bad penalty in offensive zone, and poor defense on the first goal against. :)

Yea similar to how team USA chose guys like Justin Abdelkader, Brandon Dubinsky, Ryan Callahan, David Backes, Jack Johnson, and Erik Johnson over guys like Kessel, Tyler Johnson, Kyle Okposo, Keith Yandle, Kevin Shattenkirk etc. The reasoning is they are bad at their jobs and make bad decisions fairly often.

Except JT Miller is actually good and not an awful choice for Team NA.

So...this isn't that much like the Team USA situation at all.

Well Larkin is 3 years younger and he just outscored him in his rookie season both in terms of raw numbers and rates and did it without an extremely high shooting percentage.

Except almost all the players I listed that team USA took are good also...except they are worse than alternate options.

So yea, this is exactly the same thing except it's only one guy so not as big of a deal since we're talking about the healthy scratch.

There's definitely some confusion/disagreement on who you'd choose for your NHL franchise, and who you would choose for a 2 week tournament.

Guys like Domi and Duclair, Galchenyuk (another immensely overrated player), are inevitably going to be better players than Miller in the long run. But for a short tournament before the season starts, not necessarily.

Miller was chosen because he's a bull on skates, can play physical, forecheck hard, and still has a decent pair of hands to score. A guy like Duclair would look miserable on NAs 4th line. Another one is Druoin - he scored but he's been pretty invisible paired with two elite, well established NHL players. He also has very little experience aside from his recent playoff run (which was damn impressive though).

Once again, Miller is not even top 15 of the young North American forwards I would take for the Rangers in the long term. But I think he would do a fine job, and better than a few other players, if he wasn't fighting an uphill battle from the start. Not the end of the world though, it's a an honor for him to make this team.

Larkin also played significantly more than Miller last season, and he barely outscored him.

I'd probably play Larkin over Miller as well, but I think Larkin is overrated.

Thats the only player who I think Miller might be better than, although Larkin is three years younger, so I think you'd rather have Larkin, if you are an NHL team.

1. This is all situations. Miller played more 5v5 and Larkin outscored him
2. Imagine if this logic was applied to the Miller vs. Hayes argument
