Can someone who knows whats up explain why Byfuglien wasn't in the lineup tonight? I thought Tortorella had a lot of very good things to say about him the other day, so was he just sick or something?

Told him he was gonna sit for the anthem. :amazed:

But not Gaudreau?

They are on record as wanting Eichel but could have easily wanted more.

"I tried to get an exception, like let us pick one or two guys, like Eichel," Lombardi said

"There are some obvious names there but I’ve got my hands full so I don’t want to cry over what I can’t have. It’s focusing on what I have," Lombardi said earlier in front of a larger media scrum.

After all the noise and BS. They got players to beat Canada. If they go out and loose to Canada, how ironic would that be?

I bet any money Team Canadian players are salivating on the idea they can take out not the US but Torts. I can't imagine he's well liked in NHL. Especially Crosby whose wrist was almost broken by Dubinsky

USA needs to aim to beat both Canada and the Czech Republic in regulation. If this happens, then no matter the result of the Canada vs. Europe game, USA would advance.

In other words, USA is still in control of their own destiny, at least if they can pull off two regulation wins. It's not easy but not impossible.

Really? I thought OT wins counted the same? And that if 3 teams ended tied in went to goal differential

An OT/SO win is worth 2 points just like a regulation win, but an OT/SO loss is worth one point. If two teams are tied, the tiebreaker is the result of the head-to-head game between those two teams.

If three teams are tied, you look at ROW, then regulation wins, then goal differential.

So here are all the scenarios if the USA beats both Canada and the Czech Republic in regulation:

(1) Canada beats Europe in regulation. We have a 3-way tie for first place in the group, with Canada, Europe, and USA all sitting at 4 points. Go to the ROW tiebreaker. That doesn't help us. Then go to regulation wins tiebreaker. This moves Europe to third place, because they beat the Czechs in OT. So Canada and USA advance.

(2) Europe beats Canada in regulation. So Europe wins the division and USA comes in second.

(3) Canada beats Europe in overtime/shootout. Then Europe still wins the division, because Europe will have 5 points to Canada's and USA's 4. The two-way tie between Canada and USA means USA advances.

(4) Europe beats Canada in overtime/shootout. Europe wins the division with 6 points. Canada will have 3 points. USA 4 points. USA advances.

None of the Americans on team NA would have made this USA roster.

USA management is just laughably bad.

Who would have made this team? Lombardi and co left off the likes of Okposo, Johnson, Kessel, etc. No way any of these kids would have made it.

Well again. They asked for waivers to select younger players. If you read like three posts lower.

The only potential good i see coming out of this tournament is hopefully Torts and the GMs of teams getting fired.. Quick starting over Bishop and Schneider? why are dubinsky and jack johnson on the team? so many head scratchers

Quick has been the best goalie in the tourney until his team hung him out to dry in game one. Bishop and Schneider wouldn't have done better, and probably done worse the way the US team played. Goaltending is the least of their problems.

I cannot believe a better coach like Mike Sullivan isn't the head coach of this team. Torts is way in over his head. Its clear the NHL execs still have a good ole boy network. Going with the inner circle of people. This guy has lived far too long off his 2004 cup. Torts sucks ass a coach. This guy is fired just to be hired. Rinse and repeat.

Goudreau and Eichel make it for sure. Matthews probably wouldn't have been invited, although he's proving that would have been an oversight.

Saad and Jones get consideration as well.

Shoot, the way USA has played I would take like all of the Americans on Team NA and put them on USA's roster. I have been very disappointed in their play...and Torts..good god. I have not looked but is Byfuglien playing against Canada? He needs to be...

Seriously. Do you guys really think that the team NA concept has robbed you of the chance to win?

The decision to build a team that can be physical vs fast and skilled is what robbed you.

Where is Tyler Johnson? Select him first then tell us that you would have taken Gaudreau because you wanted more skill.

They made the decision after the last Olympics to try to change things up and the team came out flat in the first game and lost.

So if they only take Eichel because of his size and abilities, would he have made the difference... I don't think so.

No Jack Johnson is good. Also nice to see Palmieri back in the lineup but Abdelkader getting more minutes will be tough to watch. Canada should beat them cause they're better, just gotta hope Quick plays the game of his life and they get a few lucky bounces to stay alive

Gaudreau and Eichel = additions

Shuffle Kesler/Parise down to checking roles, remove Abdelkader and Dubinsky.

More scoring depth, still a hard team to play against.
