Torts says lineups aren't set but he wants Abdelkader high in the lineup. Best part about this World Cup disaster for the US is Torts will never get to coach a US national team ever again once this is done. Hopefully Mike Sullivan is named the head coach in 2018. Torts is horrendous

So the Americans could be done as early as Tuesday, correct? If Team Europe wins their next game and America loses their next game, USA is done? Seems like a badly designed tournament where your tournament is over after 4 days.

There's NHL training camps going on, and they have a 3 game series for the final of the tournament. There's no 3rd place game, as far as I know. Win, and win quickly. Put on a show, and then get back to your normal job. Make it play 2 games in 6 days, and your tournament could be over after 6 days. They could stretch things out if they wanted to, but why?

At this point i'm pretty sure Torts is trolling the entire United States of America.

No, this is exactly the type of **** he pulls during the NHL season. Like he would play Brian Boyle with Gaborik or Zuccarello. Boyle is a great 4C, and yet he found himself playing way too high in the line up like half the time.

Ok I went to the tournament this weekend and would like to share my thoughts:

1) Above everything, Toronto is an amazing city. Visit. Visit. Visit. I've been 3 times now, wonderful helpful people, safe city, such a livable city. Probably my favorite city in NA.
-Go to Real Sports bar and grill, it reminds me of the old ESPN zone in Baltimore, just better food and no like batting cages or any games like that lol.

2) What a terrible game. We really didn't have many dangerous chances, lots of tips, redirections. The effort was there though, Abdelkader honestly is a great energy guy - I will never argue against his inclusion on the team he gives every shift 100% and was one of our best forwards (not saying much), Kane looked and played hungover...Terrible. As soon as we went down 1-0, Europe did a wonderful job of trapping and stacking the blueline. After talking to other fans especially Rangers fans they were screaming about Torts' coaching. Although I didn't agree with the hire and I'm not a big fan. One aspect of the game I don't think Torts ruined or hampers are the zone entries. I can't see him telling Kane or Pavelski to dump and chase, and grind the game, the team literally couldn't break the trap, EU had like one forechecker, never past their offensive hashmarks. I expect us to be better Tuesday, I'd like to see Byufglien.

3) I ran into Steve Levy and Barry Melrose on the street, great guys. I was in Sportchek (Canadian equivalent to Modell's in the USA) and Corey Perry walked in for a free signing and meet and greet. I am NOT a Corey Perry fan on the ice, but the line was like 4 people long after we checked out, so me and my buddies met him, took a pic with him and wished him luck on Tuesday (i'm in a USA hockey shirt) and I will say Mr. Perry is a wonderful person and really nice to his fans. I collect memorabilia and go to a lot of public signings, and Corey was nice to everyone who crossed his path.

4) I met so many wonderful hockey fans, I HATE this tournaments format but I met great people from every part of the globe, it was especially nice sharing a beer or two with fellow American fans who share the same passion I do for the crest. If you saw or talked to a mid-20's Italian-American wearing a JvR 2014 Sochi jersey, that was me!

5) It may have been Canada, but this weekend was a reminder that hockey is alive and well in North America.

Thank you for the kind words. Most fans would associate Leafs Fans with Toronto in general. Same with Montreal. I hate the Fans but Love the city.

You guys are always welcome in Toronto. Bring the US dollars :)

Come to think of it, why did they leave of Boyle? :sarcasm:

You're giving Lombardi too much credit. Who's to say that he would have picked those guys over Backes, Abdelkader( i still find this decision mind boggling)?

It's hard to know who to blame since USA Hockey has so many chefs in the kitchen. I know Lombardi campaigned for skill guys in the past (like Yandle) so maybe he just got overruled?

IT's weird because I feel like from the rumors I heard about him I would have sided personally with his picks before. But this team just seems like a Brian Burke team on steroids.

I agree. As much of a dinosaur as Lombardi can be, he has a real thing for Yandle and some of the other skill guys, too. I'm sure he wasn't the final say on some of them.

Regardless, he agrees with the majority of the philosophy. Even with the Kings he's trying to transition away from ALL GRITZ ALL THE TIME but just can't help himself in a lot of cases.

I think there is some serious panic here a little early. If you outshoot a team by 18 shots, you should win most games. Even if they aren't fantastic shots.

All this could be erased by a win against Canada tomorrow.

If Europe wins today, the US basically has to hammer Canada tomorrow in order to hope for a chance in the tiebreaker (unless Canada loses both remaining games) (assuming the US beats the Czech's as well)

...If Canada loses both its remaining games and Europe wins today, the US doesn't need the tiebreaker if they beat the Czechs.

Exactly right, which is why I added the "unless Canada loses both games."

Can't see that happening however

This is no 1996 World Cup team. I can't believe this management group even dares to try to pass that ******** on us.

The 1996 club made a conscious effort to build a "stronger" team, but a stronger overall team that could play with anyone.

Bottom line is I have loved the Canada Cup/World Cup since I was a kid. I want this to happen every 4 years as I love watching the best vs best. I bleed USA Hockey so I want them to win and bring success to this tournament for it to continue. But this could be a massive flop if this team doesn't make the semi finals, and if that happens we might not see another one again...
.
’96 team was short of amazing and shocked Canada big time. Canada also left some players off that roster too that "could have made a difference", but thats foresight for ya!

I certainly hope USA stays in this, regardless of what happens.... For all we know, team NA could win it all.....

The only potential good i see coming out of this tournament is hopefully Torts and the GMs of teams getting fired.. Quick starting over Bishop and Schneider? why are dubinsky and jack johnson on the team? so many head scratchers

Bad player selection, bad coach selection, bad decisions by the coach, bad philosophy on the type of player required, NHL not letting young U24 players play for the team, bad team alignment in the groups... am I missing anything?

No offense, but... did u actually WATCH the game? Yanks gave up 6 odd man rushes , including a 2-0 breakaway, in the first period alone. Team USA was listless and sleepwalked thru that game. They generated virtually nothing offensively

Your Boyz Got Smoked...ENDO'STORY

Not quite...I mean a win would be helpful to Yank's cause, but it could still bring false hope.

Even if US wins both their remaining games...unless they blitz Czechs and/or Canada...so long as Canada beats Team Euro, that would create a 3 way tie for first, and odds are good USA would still lose out on goal differential

Let's all CHEER for team NA, TOGETHER. We are brothers all, in their quest for the Championship!

They put together a pretty solid team, too.

I feel sorry for USA fans suffering Torts and watching him put Abdelkader on a line with Kane.

We Leafs fans also suffered Burke for years in Toronto. Believe me. We feel your pain.

Calling him Blowhard Burke helped us through, though. ;)

I don't get it, Torts says its a marathon, not a sprint, but brought the players that were built for a marathon of an NHL season, built to grind out wins after everyone has played 60 games in a year.

If THAT'S the biggest problem you have with this whole thing, 'headscratcher' is certainly the right term.

USA needs to aim to beat both Canada and the Czech Republic in regulation. If this happens, then no matter the result of the Canada vs. Europe game, USA would advance.

In other words, USA is still in control of their own destiny, at least if they can pull off two regulation wins. It's not easy but not impossible.
