I still don’t get how they didn’t pick Tyler Johnson, I mean I know he had his wrist issues last season but still. Like when he was in the wc back in 2014 he scored 2 goals in 13 seconds in the final minutes of the elimination game against Cze (they still lost because they were down 1-4). Having say him and Kane on a line could have been fun to see with the skill and speed they both possess.

Oh well, it’s hard to do anything about it now but hopefully the future for Team USA will be as bright as it looks with all these talented guys that played on Team NA this year.

They filled their Johnson quota with crappy defense men.

Again they wanted several but whatever
I know they asked for Eichel, but people forget two important things:

1) they asked for him at the start of the 2015-16 season, in early November (or maybe a bit earlier), things could change going into February (first wave of selections) or May/June (second), depending on how Eichel was playing.

2) the fact that they asked whether they could or couldn't have him available doesn't necessarily mean they would've had him on the team 6 months later.

I find it funny that Lombardi basically said that USA wasn't skilled enough to compete with Canada so they took even less skill and more #grit and #heart. Since when has grit ever been more important than skill? He keeps mentioning the 96 team like the game is the same now as it was then. It's like Russia basketball trying to recreate the 1972 team. makes no sense

that's what the morons who constructed the roster said. anyone with a brain knew that the US was going to get demolished in this tournament

The team looked fine when they beat Canada in the exhibition game. I definitely heard less griping about the player's chosen. It's always in hindsight and I'm sure that if Canada hadn't made it through, alot of people would have questioned some of their selections. For example, Bouwmester instead of Letang or Subban.

He keeps referencing the 96 team while failing to realize that team had more talent than grit and some of the talent also had grit. Leetch, Chelios, Housley, Hull, LaFontaine and Modano are all hall of fame players and then there were quite a few borderline hall of fame players, some that may make it later on. 7 of the forwards had scored at least 400 goals. 3 hit the 500 goal milestone. Two defense man that broke 1000 points. Then you had guys like the Hatcher brother, LeClaire, Tkachuk, Weight and Amonte that were damn good as well. So Lombardi is a jackass.

Parise Pavelski Kane
Pacioretty Johnson Wheeler
Palmeri Stepan Kessel
Van Riemsdyk Backes Kesler
Oshie

Suter-Byfuglien
McDonaugh-Justin Faulk
Andy Greene-Carlson
Erik Johnson

Schneider
Quick
Bishop

I don't get why Schneider hasn't been in net yet. He's been a better goalie than Quick 90% of the time in the last 5 years.

If you get full commitment. Your talent plays with more grit than you need. You see it with Canada every tournament. Goal scorers killing penalties and blocking shots. You don't need plugs to do that at this level.

Lombardi said he wanted several players on the u23 team and asked if he could get a waiver for a few of them so.....

The team as constructed was doomed from the start to be a middling team at best. Throw in the crap coaching and it should be no surprise the team has laid an egg. It really sucks because USA Hockey is better than this, but the people running the show are idiots. Hopefully replacements will be made going forward.

hope the schmucks in charge of constructing this roster are cleared out as well as Torts.. Even considering hiring Torts should be a fireable offense

Now, if this doesn't teach USA hockey to not pick Torts as your head coach, nothing ever will.

So after the Blue Jackets at some point get rid of him, Tortorella is never getting another NHL job again right?

Biggest failure in USA Hockey history. Hopefully the final nail in the coffin of Burke, Lomardi, Torts, and any others like them with the program.

Torts walking off the bench leaving his team behind at the end speaks volumes.

I also found it hilarious that Torts didn't use his timeout before that PP to rest his top players, or that Buff wasn't out there either. The ineptitude was comical by the end.

Hull/Chelios just said 2 or 3 guys would not have made a difference.
Pretty much throwing it at the coaches feet, saying it was disorganized.

Interesting take
