I feel like Holland has f***ed up this roster so bad that it isn't even possible to fix it and turn it into a contender anymore.

Rebuild, they still have some extremelyyyyyy valuable pieces that would fetch a kings ransom. McDavid and Draisaitl are very likely going to walk or ask for a trade at this point. The return would be astronomical for both guys. I know Oilers fans don't wanna trade the goat of this generation but there's absolutely no chance this team wins a cup. The way the roster is constructed, the contracts, it's just not gonna happen.

However they can get multiple elite prospects and several 1st rounders to jump start their rebuild. I think you gotta do it at this point.

I think in terms of value it would be something like this

McDavid for Elite prospect + Good prospect + Two 1sts
Draisaitl for Elite prospect + Two 1sts
Hyman for a good prospect or a 1st
RNH for a good prospect + 1st
Nurse with 3M retained for 1st
Kane for a good prospect or 1st
Ekholm for good prospect or 1st

They can absolutely rebuild within 2-3 years and start fresh, they can get an absolute haul for some of their guys.

Firsts for Kane, RNH, Kane and Hyman with those contracts? That's fantasy at best.

McDavid is almost a curse, he's so unbelievably good that either the cost is too astronomical or the return will just be perceived as not nearly enough.

RNH is worth more than his contract

Hyman is fair value, the term sucks but he's worth the 5.5

Kane is fair value also

These are cheap deals, teams at the deadline are always looking to add guys like this. Tanner Jeannot got traded for an entire draft class, I think that's fair value for them.

?
Hyman is 31 with 4 years left
Nuge is 30 with 5 years left
Kane sucks and is declining fast.

Their GM is Holland.

Good luck with that lol

We demand Stutzle Tkachuck Chychrun at 50% The Canadian Tire center, 10% of the Andlauder healthcare goup and Michael personal favorite car.

We've seen players get traded mid-game, but have we ever seen a head coach get fired midway through a game? If there is a time for it, last night sure was it.

Foligno got a 1st
Jeannot got an entire draft class

GMs pay stupid prices at the deadline. Hyman is still a fine player so is RNH, you're acting like these guys are some old grandpas out of their prime. Every team, especially playoff team would love a guy like Hyman.

Foligno was a rental, Jeannot was too until they re-signed him for 2 years.

Teams do not trade for older players with term. Unless it's a complete fleecing or trading for a player with a similar cap hit/term

So McDavid to the Kings for cash and three firsts, sort of like Gretzky in 1988?

hopefully, the dude might be sexiest coach in the league but he was outplayed heavily vs vegas in the playoffs and the current defensive system he uses is embarrassingly bad. Ok, Holland is mostly to blame for this shitshow but woody hasn't impressed me, other than his stunning physical appearance of course.

But without the cup in 1990, because oof. Just imagine them trading McDavid and being trusted to draft right with those picks. The same brain trust that thought trading for Griffin Reinhart was a good idea?

Just. Oof.

97 hasn’t really had an issue with producing regardless of his wingers. He made Maroon into an almost 30 goal scorer so I’m missing your point while you agree with mine that the Pens had more depth. Better defense. Just a significantly better team than Mcdrai gets. I don’t know why this can’t just be accepted. No one looks at the Edm roster and thinks that’s a cup team, and no one had that problem with the pens and no….it isn’t because of Crosby and Malkin being better. You can downplay Fleury but he’s still playing well enough NOW and the Oilers have nothing like that. The defense was better for the Pens. There’s no comparison here no matter how hard you try to make your presumable base line point of Crosby and Malkin being better than Mcdrai. You don’t have enough to work with here for that argument.
The Oilers had much better forwards than the Penguins outside of their top two players. RNH, Hyman, and Kane were better the last two years than anyone Crosby and Malkin had to play with in 09. The Oilers could choose to have McDavid, Draisaitl, and RNH lead their own lines, but they do not consistently. And I suspect it's because of 97's point totals. And I'd say the 09 Penguins defensemen were better defensively but worse offensively than the Oilers group.

I don’t get the sarcastic comments about 97 vs 87.

Those Pens teams had way more depth, better D and goaltending. It doesn’t have much to do with McDrai, the rest of the team is pretty meh. Those two can’t do it all themselves and no matter what people want to believe about those Pens teams, Crosby and Malkin couldn’t have done it all themselves either.
Crosby and Malkin did do it all themselves. Did people not watch that playoffs?

What team would nt want McDavid?
What team could afford the legit cost to get him and stay competitive?

Draisatl almost the same

97 loses puck, skates hard to try and prevent a breakaway goal. All good. Except after the save he skates away like he doesn't give a flying eff. McDavid is a horrible captain, coaches will continue to take the fall.

What team would not want McDavid?

Since you asked, McDavid would probably not fit in with the Knights at all unless he made a commitment to playing defense at an elite level. Probably other of the top teams who have taken years to build their elite defenses would likely look at it the same way. Plus, McDavid is going to want more than Matthews got, so good luck putting together much of a depth team once you cut him that check north of $15M per year.

McDavid will be great for some team having trouble filling the stands since he'll be a big draw for fans that want to see lots of wow moves and high scoring, but don't really have much in the way of realistic championship aspirations.

Probably ditto for Draisatl for all of this, except his paycheck will not be as big and his defense is even worse.
