The call won't be turned, obviously. But Finland wants the IIHF on the record as to why the goal was disallowed. Apparently, at the moment they've found no one who could give a solid explanation based on the rulebook.

How much Trump paid for that?

Never seen bull**** like this In ice hockey. Nobody In Iihf cant even get answer for what that call was.

Us and A didnt win anything.

Finland made protest so nothing is over yet
Do you realize how insignificant this is in the US? There's virtually no media coverage, I happened upon the 3rd period because I left the channel on NHL Network and they aired this instead of NHL highlight replays.

That’s what I saw

If Riggsby got called for a trip, then it’s a delayed penalty. She was the first one to touch the puck (gave up a rebound), so play is dead.

And damn, this announcer dude on NHL Network is crazy butt hurt.

Yeah, you'd think they were Finnish announcers with their reactions. Granted, they've been confused the entire game. It's probably one of the worst announced games I've ever heard.

My favorite part is when he was losing his mind in the 3rd period when Raty gloved a Keller slapshot from way out with no traffic. If you hadn't seen the play, you'd think she'd just made the hockey (men's or women's) save of the year. It was the most pedestrian save ever and probably one of Raty's easiest of the game.

But the penalty was called for the goalie

2min penalty for United States
#33 RIGSBY Alex for Tripping (served by #25 CARPENTER Alex).

So how can the penalty be called when USA had no control over puck? Finnish player put it in goal while it was delayed penalty
That's what I'm saying. I think Rigsby had control of the puck when the penalty occurred, and thus it was intent to blow the whistle dead then.
I can’t believe this. That was complete bs. They should file a protest.
Eh, the coach is too old to protest ;)

I like women's hockey but in a few days no one will remember this and start thinking about the Mens championship where USA will probably be really bad and Finland can celebrate being good and winning.

LOL Finland making protest on the goal

Why? in my opinion there's no need to protest.
Refs made their decision of Finland's overtime goal good while ago so deal with it and move on.
Goalie interference is goalie interference and nothing won't change that.

USA if any team knows how crucial some reffing calls can be.
If you haven't forgotten USA's 1st goal vs Finland in U20 WJC's gold medal game was disallowed by goalie interference.
And it was as clear goal like Finland's overtime goal in this game.

This time hockey gods took that call back now and Finland lost gold medal.
Sometimes hockey and sport isn't fair.

Rule 185, iii):
An attacking skater who makes incidental contact with a goaltender out of his goal crease while both try to gain possession of the puck will not be penalized. If a goal is scored at this time, the goal will count.

There's no way the goalie could have been determined to have been in the crease when contact (which was definitely incidental) was made.

Or the idea that the US Government would bribe their way to victory in a completely irrelevant tournament in the sports world, both in the US but also the world. Never mind the fact that the US Government is one of the few (only?) governments that doesn't fund any of its national sports teams.

The penalty was coming after the goalie gave the rebound

I don’t know the iihf rule book but it’s actually quite straightforward if you look at it through NHL eyes:

- team A commits penalty
- play is live for team B until team touches puck (delayed penalty)
- whistle blows
- team A to box. Team B to power play

So if the call was

- trip by US goalie
- arm goes up - called penalty
- US was first team to touch puck (goalie)

So if that’s the case, it’s accurate - once goalie touched the puck, the play was over. The shot that went in technically never happened.

It's women's ice hockey, there's nothing political happening.

How so? Maybe political have different meanings in different languages. Everyone knows the US and Canada are the leading powers in Woman's hockey, and to assume they don't want to piss them of with a scandal/weird decision against them is legitimate. I would personally think there is a bigger chance of the leading nations getting advantages in smaller markets like woman's hockey compared to the men.

What’s funny is that we were complaining about possible goalie interference on the Pens/Isles OT goal on Wednesday..... sure enough this happened.

How does that play in Nassau get a small review yet this one gets a major Review?

Even president of Finland request explanation

It isn't touching the puck....The offending team has to control the puck. Which 100% did not happen.

Actually IIHF rules you need to have CONTROL of the puck. But iirc the goalie didn't touch the puck after the delayed penalty was raised

There clearly is a reason why USA is a powerhouse nation in women's hockey.
Finland did their best but it wasn't enough this time.
Congrats USA
