it will be nice to one day have a respectable blue line with a true #1 D in the vein of Makar, Hughes, Hedman, McAvoy.

I look at our D-corps against Colorado, Boston, Florida, Vegas, Vancouver, NY, Carolina, Nashville, Winnipeg, Tampa and just laugh thinking this team has a snowballs chance in hell of winning the Cup. Maybe the worst defensive group of all the playoff teams honestly.

I personally believe they''ll be in tough against any team they meet in the playoffs.

This team doesn't have the necessary mental or physical toughness to compete hard for 60 minutes.

The coaches will get out coached, our goalies will get out goalied, and our usual core 4 players will disappear as they always do.

Other than for their HIGH salaries, they have nothing they want to COMPETE for !!!

JMHO.

Team defence was horrific. Lazy plays, lazy passes, lazy effort, poor decisions…just a mess. Starts with poor game from Woll. McCabe, Lllijgren, Brodie, and Boosh absolutely pathetic the entire game.

On the offensive side, Allen stole them a game. But this happens too much to this team. Keefe was not to blame tonight.

Devils are fast. They are also desperate.

I just hope this board and Keefe realizes that come playoffs, this team needs to ice ornery, physical men. They have enough of them that they can take up some space at a time when it is in short supply.

Yup. The keyword is "Team D"

If you recall the penguins' roster when they went on to win cups. They freakin' had no stud Ds but their 5 man defense was so clutch that it helped quite a bit including MAF going super saiyan against the caps and murray playing solid too.

Leafs' team defense needs to be better. If we can stop chasing the freakin' puck in the d-zone and have a bit of structure as a 5 man unit out there; it would help a bunch!

Sure, but if you ask teams if they'd rather go through the Atlantic or Metro - nearly every team would pick the Metro.

The same thing happening in the West. The Pacific is a cake walk while the Central is stacked. The playoff format is completely unfair.

WC1 in the West right now would be competing for home ice in the Pacific.

I said that back in January and maybe in December too. The structure isn't there, the discipline isn't there... he just can't get them to buy in to playing a responsible game on a regular basis.

I don't even know if it's Keefe, or if the core group just will never buy in...

But, I thought we needed a coaching change long ago... He's either lost the room, or these guys aren't coachable... but there should have been changes much earlier this season to at least just which it is. So often Keefe has looked like quitting on the players... he's frustrated too, he's frustrated that no matter what he says, there isn't buy in... I'm looking forward to what he has to say in the post game media video.

The room feels like it’s been conditioned incorrectly to fall back on talent and offensive skill switch flipping instead of any real team structure or process.

They can kind of step up and do the textbook thing vs a marquee opponent and then just coast on bullshit for as long as they can get away with it.

Deeply unserious team pretending to be a contender.

I don’t think so, he’s just not a very good coach.
Seems like the kind of coach that would be pretty popular in the room

Babcock they quit on to get him fired. Doesn’t seem to be the case here, he just doesn’t know how to get the best out of them consistently

Sheldon Keefe: Just not good enough. And you're playing against a team that's among the most dangerous teams in the NHL offensively, and they want to play the game like that in terms of countering and getting behind you. Jack Hughes gets two breakaways. You're not winning the game if that's going to be the case. So, hated lots about our game tonight. And hopefully, the players hate it just as much or more than I do.
