Jost has been great. Someone is getting a steal with him in the draft.

Pulju pretty quiet tonight.

Some great passes, but he looked slow and got the puck stripped from him a fair amount.

Lol how on earth Tolvanen didn't get any goals.. 5-6 shots from the high slot on cross on ice passes..

Full pro season(plus WJCs) ending in playoff disappointment behind him, probably dealing with all kinds of injuries and fatigue. Also possibly jet lagged, and jumping into a new team and system mid tournament isn't easy... And he was still probably the best player on our side tonight, though the team performed rather poorly as a whole.

Yeah it takes a toll on a guy to play that much. He still looked okay, but he's expected to dominate. Something looked off compared to other times I've watched him. But long season, long travel and it's only 1 game.

He really didn't have a lot to gain by coming over here (besides helping the team because he's a team first guy).

A lot of eyes are on him coming to play in this tourney in NA, even if the rink is empty. I imagine he'll be better in the Quarters.

Holy **** Czech PP is the worst **** ever. Instead of using it to generate chances they allow two shorthanded goals and TWO penalty shots... :help:

That team is bad and should feel bad, losing to underage Slovaks in the most important game of the tournament. They will get spanked in the quaterfinals by USA like last year... actually, it will be likely even worse result. 10:0?

How good is this slovak team?

This is a good team after many years, even though next year is expected to be even stronger. They didn't get steam-rolled vs Canada and Finland and played rather close games. In quarters Sweden is the favorite, but if a surprise is to happen, it's more likely to happen this year than in previous ones.

Edit: I was looking at some stats/data and found out that this Slovak U18 team is the 2nd youngest at the tourney with average age 16.83 yrs. Only the Russians brought a younger team (16.68 yrs) for well known reasons.

The attendance doesn't really surprise me but it's still so disappointing. I've seen neutral crowds in places like Germany and Switzerland at this tournament in years past that put those at the US games to absolute shame. I really hope the medal round games can draw some people in.

isn't the arena really small? why couldnt they hold this tournament in Canada instead?

These tournaments are awarded years in advance....what junior city in Canada (CHL) can guarantee arena availability 2 years from now with the CHL playoffs in full swing this time of year and the 2nd. rd. just beginning by the time this tournament drops the puck. Never say never, but this tournament in Canada is as close to never as you get.

Put it in Sask/a southern city in the prairie Provinces.

Not that I think we need to be hosting more junior tournaments, but this tournament would be a good fit in a couple of Junior A communities - maybe Nanaimo/Cowichan or Penticton/Vernon (Camrose/Drayton Valley?) - where the likelihood they would need the rink for more than one night this time of year would be slight. Most wouldn't need TV lighting upgrades. Surely the IIHF doesn't need more than a few thousand seats for the U-18s.

I know it's not a high priority tournament, but where in Sask? where provincial junior A teams play? 500 seat venues wouldn't be a good look...not even for this low priority tournament. No need for it to be in Canada. I'm fine with how it is... OR...something which I have always supported. Changing the CHL calendar so that teams start the season sooner, play fewer games and end the season by mid April. but the CHL loves its Mem Cup on May 24 weekend.
