Winnipeg, Manitoba,
Me thinks Savoie is the next Nic Petan…I went to a handful of Ice games and he never really impressed me at all. Especially with how highly touted he was

Sure noticed the Benson kid for all the right reasons though…

Not surprised to see them get eliminated. I have been pretty underwhelmed with team Canada this tournament. Some players really disappointed like the NHL guys and Savoie.
would have expected more out of the likes of Geekie, Beck, Danielson, Yager, too. Some big name D+1 and D+2 guys.

they were also a trainwreck defensively and were never going to get by Sweden and the US.

Salomonson is like a better version of Demelo

I can see it, I think their transition game is pretty similar. I think Demelo is more sound positionally whereas Salomonsson relies more on his skating to bail him out. And that's not to say that he needs to bail himself out much, he doesn't really abandon his responsibility as a defenseman to push for offense ala Karlsson.
I think he definitely has the skating to add a lot more risk to his game.

Mike Johnson says that Sweden never gives up the slot but I swear every goal I've seen against has had Elias Pettersson on the ice right from the slot

I don't know if he will put up points in this league but I think he comes in a stabilizes whoever he plays with.

According to people here who have watched him he has shown offensive potential, making good plays that don't end up in the net. It sounds like he has the skills for a modest level of offense to develop. I look at DeMelo's offense in Bones' system. He went from practically no offense at all to 27 pts last year and is on pace for 30 this year. I would be very happy if Salo could give us solid D and put up 25-30 pts/season. If he never quite gets to that level of offense it would still be OK if his D lives up to expectations.

Salomonsson's gotta come over NA and play top PP minutes. What a waste that he hasn't seen the PP either on his SHL team nor on this WJC team. If possible I'd find a way to get him to the Moose as soon as WJC ends. Moose needs D and he needs to play on the PP to develop offensively. D-men need PP time to develop offensively.

It's too early to piegonhole him as a "DeMelo type"... he should be getting all the opportunities to develop offensively which I don't think he is in the SHL. By all accounts SHL has been great for his defensive game which I appreciate but he needs more offensive opportunities which I don't think he's getting on his SHL team as there is ASP and another veteren d-man ahead of him in the PP pecking order.

I think recalling him to the Moose is an option for the Jets as they kept him there to start the season and only loaned him to his SHL team a week later.

Still plenty of time for his offense to come. I'd leave him in Sweden the rest of the year and give him a big role on the Moose next year.

Thought I'd hung a Teppo Numminen comp on him earlier, but I'm not seeing it now.

Anyway, somewhere between Simon Lundmark and Teppo Numminen....let's not get crazy now!

:sarcasm:
Reminds me of a better Willy Lindstrom if he had played D... with a touch of Hakkan Loob and the height of Olli Jokinen but not quite as many names as Lars-Erik Sjoberg...

I don't really consider comparing him to Demelo a knock, as I said I think his skating will let him take more risks while still playing a solid transition game that results in great possession numbers.
