Wrong, it’s cause the ice is tilted 40 degrees in our favour

I have a buddy who is buddies with a buddy who does the ice with a buddy at Rogers Arena and I can confirm they have legitimately titled the ice in russia’s end so that they have an uphill skate for two periods.

My sources are solid and legit.

Yup. Scoring 14 goals on the hapless Danes was oh so humble. Could've scored 15!
That's a fair point. Canada should not have run up the score.

However, I meant mocking another team after the game - during the nation anthems. Or taking shots in the press, flapping arms, etc. I know it happens, because they are kids. I just see a lot less of it from North American teams.

The math checks out on this story, can confirm.

Well in all fairness a guy like Bobby Clarke is always going to spring to Russian fans mind, can't say I blame them.
I know a few Russians will remember Mark Messier too , passed out one of the hardest checks I've seen to one behind the net ... l thought the guy wasn't getting up.Lot of pissed off Russians at the time .My biggest worry coming into this game is the Russians best half game ..was their last half game .

The way this is going we can expect an appearance by one Atticus Finch tonight, but that is only if/when Russia has the game in the bag.

I'm not convinced of this, if we continue to make some of the decisions we have been making on defense and as a team in general the Russians will catch us on odd man rushes and burn us...................................they don't miss on them very often.

Can't wait for this game.
I see something like 6-3 Canada.

I'm not bad mouthing Russian hockey but there are certain constants we see from Russia at the WJR's :

1) Lots of cheap shots;
2) Lots of dirty stick work;
3) Lots of gloating after they win.

It is what it is.

Meh Canada does that too, it's hockey

Remember dumb-face Schenn pulling his jersey (logo) after scoring and thinking the game was over? And then Tarasenko did the same when they came back to win it? Good times.

It's mine too, gonna be an interesting contest tonight.

Looking forward to this. Thinking it’s gonna be comfortable for Canada...but I always think every game is gonna be comfortable for Canada.

Russians and Swedes almost invented the gloating embarrassment of the blowout game. The rules, they say, demand it. Canadians have reluctantly come to agree.

There are only 6-8 top tier teams. That's going to be the way.

Goal differential.

It was the first game and nobody could know how weak the competition was until the preliminary round got going a bit. Do you think that any other team would have laid off? They would get their butts kicked for dropping their compete level and even as it was the game against the Swiss was 'off' due to a wild step up in competition.

If you play like it's house league just because you can....then how do you flip that switch next game?

and....

goal differential is now a non-factor....but nobody saw that coming.

I see this thread is already past the point of posters calling other hockey nations cheap, cheaters and/or talking about instances that happened 30+ years ago; all of which have nothing to do with the kids participating.
I find it fascinating that a game between awkward pimply teenagers can evoke such defensiveness, hockey tribalism, vitriol and emotional attachment. It's quite the study of sports fan psychology.

TSN has done a great job marketing this thing.

Let's not forget as well that this tournament isn't "best on best" either because each year some of the best 18 and 19 years old are already in the NHL.

And most teams play the same nowadays.
