GDT: [WJC] Latvia vs. Canada, 6pm EST 10/8/22

Latvia is hanging on surprisingly well. Especially when the fact is that they must be quite tired still from yesterday’s game against Finland. But the longer the game goes on, it will start going more and more to Canada’s favor. Might get still very ugly, although 1-1 is very surprising so far. Hats off to Latvia so far!
I am quite surprised. The pace and physicality is very North American. I'm proud that our guys can hang. Even if it is a thin thread, but can hang

I would like to see one of Foerster, Ostapchuk Or Cuylle on Bedard’s line.

Side question on Cossa, does he always go down on every shot really early? Not sure if I like it.

I liked Jesper Wallstedt game way more earlier today. He kept his package together better. He had great stick handling ability already too.

Canada is gonna have a hard time if they play like this against Finland or the US. Can't make these sloppy mistakes against teams that can actually put the puck in the net.

Never really been impressed by Cossa much. He's just big.
Moving well for a big man as well and very clean technique. So the upside is there. Other than that, often times he's all over the place. He's very much a longterm project and it was definitely a bold move to take him over Wallstedt who's an established SHL goalie already. It was also a bold move by Cameron to play him over the other two guys after what happened last year and a relatively poor season at club level. However, this isn't really Cossa's fault.

This shot from Darzins was far from unstoppable but primarily it was poorly defended. I mean the guy skates over half of the rink and even gets to cut to the middle of the ice in the offensive zone to get his shot off without a single Canadian player doing anything to stop him. That's very nicely done by Darzins and the shot wasn't unstoppable but Cossa isn't the first guy Cameron should look at when analyzing that goal.

Jeff O'Neill blamed the D and the goaltender on that goal. Jeff O'Neill is not an expert in either of these areas...

That was a creative 2 on 2 with a little interference run by the off forward... maybe the right d could have got a little closer and gapped a bit tighter but the puck carrier did a great job coming across with a quick and filthy release. I see that as a play made by Latvia.

People need to give Latvia more credit. They’re in the top division for a reason.
they beat Germany in their pre-tournament game.
hung on with the Finn’s and now are hanging with the Canadians after 1.

Lambos played it really poorly

I'd agree with this, although I didn't think finland looked all that great in their first game, was expecting a lot better from them.

they were..............o.k.

Definitely a nice play by Latvia and also a nice shot. Still, the Canadians didn't do anything to stop the play, let alone to stop Darzins from cutting to the middle of the ice. Also, the top goalies of this tournament are gonna make that save.

So why isnt Wyatt Johnston on this team? Was he hurt or something?

Yes a back injury. Probably precautionary but it kept him out of development camp too, he said it'll be fine by training camp tho
